Blue Velvet Deleted Scenes Found, Soon on Blu-ray

During a recent radio interview, David Lynch revealed that the deleted scenes from his 1986 masterpiece Blue Velvet, which for a long time were thought to be lost forever, had recently been found "somewhere up in Seattle." Lynch said that "hopefully" some of those scenes will end up in an upcoming Blu-ray (although he also noted that some of them "aren't worth putting back together"). It will also feature a brand-new 5.1 mix supervised by Lynch and his sound engineer Dean Hurley.

As explained on the Blue Velvet special edition DVD released in 2002, the original cut of the film as assembled by Lynch had a running length of around four movies. However, his contract with producer Dino De Laurentiis obligated Lynch to deliver a two-hour movie so he had to perform extensive cuts, deleting whole scenes and subplots.

During the interview, Lynch said that he had been seeking out all that deleted material, "because some of these scenes on their own would be beautiful to see again." However, he found out that De Laurentiis's company had been sold to other companies and neither the producer (who passed away in November 2010) nor anybody else knew where the unused and deleted footage was. So it is a stroke of luck that such a treasure trove has been unearthed.

At the moment, Blue Velvet is still unannounced on Blu-ray in the US; it is coming out in France on February 16.

I hope that it either comes as a choice between theatrical edition and special edition-like apocalypse now-or that the deleted scenes comes as an extra.Hope they don't insert them into the movie as I am pretty sure that it'll make the movie worse.Find it close to perfection as is.David Lynch's finest hour.Allready pre-ordered it from amazon.fr

Day one for me!

The opening sequence is one of the best openings in film history! So damn eerie.

So.......what, you have this on blu ray now? I noticed Amazon.fr have taken it down from their shop now, so I take it the release was cancelled?

What!?Hope not,because I have pre-ordered it.

ffs,this is aggrevating!What is the problem?You digitize the movie to hi-def,then transfer it to a BD disc,and send it to the customer.How difficult can it be??!!

Did you order it on French Amazon too? It may just be a problem that lies with them. I tried to buy Lost Highway and Twin Peaks FWWM on blu ray at the same time (about 3 months ago) and they have yet to come in stock so my order is still pending.

Blue Velvet however has been removed from site and they cancelled my order. Anyone know who else stocks these releases?

It seems to me like the French blu-ray was already planned when they found the missing footage, so maybe they cancelled the current planned release and are waiting to include that footage somehow, most likely as a bonus.
