The studio decided to not press more copies once the Best Buy window of exclusivity ended. Many of their exclusives like City Slickers were not big sellers on home video and we were lucky to get any edition of them on BD. I strongly doubt we see more copies pressed of a movie like The Thomas Crown Affair, so whatever was produced for Best Buy is it.

See what happened to aftermarket prices when Paramount took some of its catalog titles off the market.

wow, Thomas Crowne Affair never got a wider release.
man that's terrible news. so glad I got a copy.
such a great movie.
(judging interest by a BB exclusive that 99% of the people who might want this title would never know about to begin with is hardly a way to judge its overall viability as a bd imo)

Wow, that sucks! I've always been under the impression that they would be available elsewhere after the exclusive window was over so I never rushed out to get them. Especially the Walmart exclusive titles since I don't live near a store. Fortunately "Thomas" was one of the ones I did get, but still....

You can get it from Amazon.de, fr or it. It's the same exact disc everywhere.

good point.
it makes no sense that MGM didn't go wide in the US with this release.

He also mentions the split-screen footage and those are all multi-pass opticals and that's what you get. There is no damage whatsoever on any shot that isn't an optical. The film was never very sharp - had MGM gone back to the original camera negative it might have been a bit better, but I'm pretty certain this is, in fact, a new transfer off an internegative - color is excellent throughout. It's a whole lot better than its DVD counterpart.
Actually the original film is quite sharp. I have an original 1968 35mm release print so can say this first hand. The color of course has long since faded. The transfer's lack of sharpness is not due to the original film negative lacking definition.
