United Kingdom Inception: Faulty DVD with Triple Play

It seems there's problem with the DVD of Inception which might not bother a lot of guys here (if a recent thread was right - not many people use them), but I thought I'd post it to give you a heads up anyways.

Go to the link and on the bottom right is another link to email Warner Bros.

Warner Bros

Thanks to DVDActive and Chris Gould for the heads up and original post.

Quote:
It has recently come to our attention that certain batches of Warner Brothers' Inception DVD have serious visual issues. The discs, which can be identified by the batch code 'SE-SP-08', present obvious signs of aliasing and poor compression, as evidenced by the screen captures accompanying this piece. Warner Brothers has already instigated a replacement programme for affected customers, as detailed on their website. If you think you have one of the faulty discs you should send an email to wbcustomerservices@technicolor.com, who will then arrange for a replacement disc to be sent free of charge. The issue also affects DVDs included with the Blu-ray Triple Play edition. It's worth pointing out that the visual problems look much worse in motion than they do in these still images.
If you find out were the batch number is located on the case or disc please post (I think it's above the Blu-ray logo on most WB discs, I haven't opened mine yet).

Thankfully, I ditched my UK release for the sexy German steelbook, which has no DVD.

Thanks for this, I completely forgot about this.

I've the Inception briefcase, but I'll try the DVD tonight. So every DVD with the batch code that's in the original post is faulty?

No problem. I have the case as well but I haven't opened the shrinkwrap yet. If you find the batch number let me/us know where it is? It seems to move around on WB discs some are above the BD logo some off to the side.

The top is the faulty disc the bottom the fixed one. Remember it looks a lot worse in motion.

Difficult to tell really from that picture, I'll have to try my DVD later.

The batch code is just on the DVD disc, on the right side. Such a bloody faff on, absolute morons that they didn't obviously test out the DVD quality before shipping the hundreds of thousands of them. Someone needs a sacking.

I haven't opened mine, either. It's going to be quite the pain to open it to swap discs when a problem like this shouldn't have arised in the first place.

Just tried my copy, it is very noticeable and looks awful, and I've watched other recently released films on DVD after renting them and though upscaled, they still looked good. I can't be bothered to send it back though, it's a lot of waiting and messing about for something that I'm never actually going to use.

I noticed the DVD quality on mine was awful when I got it. Just checked the disc and surprise surprise, it's one of the faulty batch. I've just emailed about the replacement, cause although I'll probably never use it, my in-laws have asked if they can borrow it, and I'd rather they had the proper quality version to watch.

For anyone who's not sure, the batch number is on the bottom right of the DVD itself, at the very end of the writing around the bottom edge.

Suddenly, the ratings for Inception on Amazon.co.uk make a lot more sense, lol.

I haven't bothered watching the DVD myself, only the blu-ray and the digital copy.

I do have one of the faulty batch discs though. Found the batch number. My younger sister recently watched the DVD though and said that she didn't see any problems. Then again, she wasn't looking for them.

I wonder if this problem has affected people with the various triple play steelbooks from other countries?

I checked my dvd and it has indeed got that batch number, i put it in my player and it is really bad, its really grainy and just poor quality, skin tones are really off at some points i just emailed them to see if i could get a replacement, not that ill probably ever watch the dvd but if someone wants to borrow it then id rather give them a good quality version.

I opened my copy yesterday and, sure enough, my disc had the faulty batch number on it.

I didn't even bother to try it in my player, I emailed Warner straight away asking for a replacement disc for the copy found in the briefcase edition and the address to send it to and they got back to me with my new disc should arrive soon.

No asking for proof of purchase, batch number, nothing!

Oh well that's nice to know, there was me thinking I would have to send my faulty disc back as proof of purchase in order to receive a new one. I think I'll just email them now then.

Does anyone know how long it normally takes for a WB customer service rep to reply back? I sent an email this morning, been at work all day, came back, and no reply.

So where do you look for the batch code?

I think the AUS release is affected.... just checking it out and it looks bad, aliasing all over the place..... or it could just be going from Blu-Ray to DVD that makes it look bad.

Keep us posted. I wonder if they've been swamped? I'll leave it a few days then send another. Did you give all your details in your e-mail or did you just inform them you had a faulty disc?
