Default Summer Wars US Release 2/15/2011

Summer Wars will be released in the US on 2/15/2011.

Quote:
Timid eleventh-grader and math genius Kenji Koiso is asked by his secret crush Natsuki to come with her to her family's Nagano home for a summer job. Turns out Kenji discovers his "summer job" is to pretend to be Natsuki's fiance, for the celebration of Natsuki's spunky grandmother's 90th birthday. There, he receives a strange math problem on his cell phone which, being a math genius, he can't resist solving it. As it turns out, his solution creates chaos within the virtual world of OZ, translating into anarchy in real-life.

Saw this in-store at Best Buy yesterday and I had to restrain myself something fierce, even though I have it coming in the mail on Tuesday from Amazon for $5 + tax less.

Does Best Buy do this with animated titles a lot? I bought The Secret of Kells at Best Buy before release date.

I see the opposite. ALL Best Buys in my district (four total) stopped carrying niche titles, including the FUNimation line. The nearest one who carries titles like this is in another state, a good three hour drive.

No, it's a rather unusual thing. They break street date every once in a while, but as a ratio to titles released, it's uncommon. There was only a single copy on the shelves when I was browsing, and it was one of the largest in the state (almost twice the size of the average Best Buy).

I had gone there to pick up Canaan on BD. It seems that it's been discontinued, and my order from bestbuy.com had been on backorder for two weeks, so I had them change it to in-store pickup. This store was the only one in the state that had a copy of it left, so I made the half hour drive to pick it up.

For me my Best Buy stopped carrying anime on Blu-ray at all which even includes titles that are not really niche like Dragon Ball Z and Fullmetal Alchemist. My Best Buy does carry the dvd versions of them though with a sticker on the shrinkwrap that says it's also available on Blu-ray like they know it exists but just don't feel like carrying it.

The anime dvd section looks so pitiful as is for a Best Buy location where anime was selling quite well at. But on top of that there's not a single Blu-ray anime out on the shelves except for Afro Samurai which they may have even forgotten to pull off of the shelves.

Yeah, anime is basically dead at my local Best Buy locations. They carried the first two parts of Brotherhood on BD but not the third, and the DVD anime section is down to a single shelf.

Same. They carry the dvd but no bluray. Though, Not sure if they ever carried it and just not restocked if bought. I'm just hoping they will carry it I called them today to see if they can tell me if they have any in stock for sale for tomorrow. Lady told me they can't check even though I know they can. Probably call another location or see if any friends are working tonight to help me out. I really don't wanna order online.

I saw this earlier tonight and is easily in my top 5 blu's. The picture and audio is damn near jaw-dropping. The Oz scenes are absolutely stunning.

I almost said slim to none, but that would even be pushing it. I'd say no chance whatsoever.

Best Buy and their annoying super-sticky price stickers. Best Buy may have this blu-ray for the cheapest price, but you gotta deal with their annoying super sticky price stickers sticking onto the slipcover. There are two stickers on the front and one clear "Made in Mexico" sticker on the back. The front two stickers were a pain to get off. I don't understand the concept of Best Buy using super sticky stickers. Is it cheaper? Are the less sticky residue-leaving stickers more expensive?

The copies I saw at my Best Buy had slipcovers, but the copy I received from Amazon today (preordered long ago) did not have one.

What? GO BACK AND RETURN THAT! That slip is way too nice for you to miss out. Maybe see if you can find it at another BB (after you make calls) or Amazon.
