3 out of 10 from IGN:

Quote:
'One of the worst action games ever' A gash on the face of the franchise,
Clearly Team Ninja didn't offer IGN a big enough donation to get a good rating.

But to be honest IGN are shit. And I wouldn't trust any of their reviews.

It may depend on which reviewer's opinion you trust the most. IGN awarded the lowest score thus far, but a few others did assign a score of 8, so it's difficult to know (without playing) whose opinion is the most accurate.

From CVG:
Quote:
Ninja Gaiden 3 review round-up: Worst game ever, or best Gaiden yet?

CVG: 8.0 - It's less hardcore than previous games, making solo play enjoyable, but the online mode is a misstep. Still, while it's not as accomplished as Bayonetta, it's the best Gaiden yet.

IGN: 3.0 - Ninja Gaiden 3 is a gash on the face of the franchise and one of the worst games the action genre has yet suffered. It has no consideration for its fans' wants or what a new audience may have enjoyed. It's a nightmare that's as easy as it is uninteresting, and it abandons what used to work for awful new ideas that don't work together. Under no circumstance should you ever waste your time on this self-indulgent and abysmal wreck.

OXM UK: 8 - Ninja Gaiden serves up some Hollywood setpieces with a rock-solid combat system. Forgive the hyperactive cameraman and choose the right difficulty, because the wrong one will ruin your game

OXM US: 8.0 - Given the rare and tumultuous circumstances that led to such turnover at Team Ninja, it's fair to wonder what Itagaki's Ninja Gaiden 3 would've been like. Still, this version of Ninja Gaiden 3 - the one created by Yosuke Hayashi and his crew - is what we get, and it deserves praise for being a great way an Xbox action fan can spend $60. It may not live up to the series' impossibly high standards, but it's still a gem in its own right.

Metro: 8/10 - An impressively courageous reboot that channels the hard-edged heart of the series while discarding its more antagonistic baggage.

VideoGamer: 5/10 - You can probably wring out a decent afternoon with Ninja Gaiden 3 providing you're not expecting it to be as good as its predecessors. There are the origins of a fast, exciting new combat system buried underneath all the mess, and the gorgeous animations and zippy takedowns provide an immediate buzz. Yet its problems vastly outweigh its positives, and it's hard to come away feeling anything other than disappointed. This was supposed to be a bold new beginning for the series, but ultimately Ninja Gaiden 3 feels like a false start.

I'm shocked at the early reviews on this game. So far it's got 53.25% average review on GameRankings based on 4 reviews and a 60% avg review on Metacritic based on 7 reviews.

General consensus seems to be this is a broken game. Very disappointing considering I love the first two games for the PS3.

Well for what should be obvious reasons I will be picking this up and I couldn't care less what reviews say but honestly this game hasn't looked very good to me from the very first trailer. But Itagaki was Team Ninja and he took most of them with him to Valhalla so Hayashi hasn't had an easy task to try and take over. Honestly he would have been better leaving with Itagaki and letting Team Ninja die instead of trying to go on with some faux Team Ninja.

I just see a couple of horrible reviews that will continue to keep the overall score low. I saw just as many reviews or more saying the opposite. I don't just automatically assume the lowest review scores are accurate for me.

OH I agree, what I have read so far is that they took off many of the elements from prior games such as upgradeable weapons (it seems in fact you only use one weapon throughout the game) and such...

Anyone here already playing it? what are your thoughts?

Been a fan of Ninja Gaiden since the original NES games so while I think I will pass on the CE I will definitely be getting this regardless...

This series was in need an improvement not serious degrading. I'd still like to try a demo if they put one out.

Playing the game, I don't know why it was rated so low. It's a nice different story than we're used to and offers a beautiful amount of violence!!!! I'd give it at least a 6 or 7 out of 10

Uh-Oh! Ninja Gaiden III Online Passes are Broken

http://www.qj.net

If you jumped on the web today to check out the reviews for Ninja Gaiden III, which hit shelves at midnight last night, you may be in for some disappointment: A number of review sites are withholding their reviews due to complications with the game’s Online Pass system. It appears that a significant number of players and review outlets are having difficulty accessing Ninja Gaiden III’s online mode, being greeted with an error when the Online Pass key is entered.

Issues with Online Passes are nothing new—we saw a few printed sideways with Battlefield 3 and there are always little hiccups (I had to enter mine three times with Mass Effect), but the problem with Ninja Gaiden III seems to be more widespread than that. Game Informer and Destructoid are both sitting on their reviews due to Online Pass issues, and quick Twitter search pulls up hundreds of gamers locked out for the very same reason.

This is a pretty big screw-up, especially when many fans were wondering why Team Ninja shoved multiplayer into Ninja Gaiden in the first place. These launch-day issues surely won’t build confidence, and the game’s extremely mixed reviews aren’t helping either.

Have you picked up Ninja Gaiden III? Any issues with online play?

They didn't even put the online passes in the collector's editions at all CD case was broken, artbook was bent, pegs on the stand don't line up right with the holes in the figures feet....... DOA5 demo vouchers are not working either.

And while the game isn't awful it isn't Ninja Gaiden so as a Ninja Gaiden game it is awful. Kind of like Splinter Cell Conviction. Game wasn't awful but it wasn't Splinter Cell. If you are going to mess with series make them a new IP instead!

I don't understand about the lack of weapons... they are supposed to be free DLC...why not just release them on the disc?

I'll get this when it's cheap...which shouldn't take long..Amazon dropped it $5 already

It's been priced like that for a while now, what I noticed is third party sellers already offering it for about $40

The average review score at Amazon is quite low too, most fans from prior games are rating it 2 stars and below...
