I didn't see a thread for this yet, so I thought I'd start one. I finally got a chance to pick this up and I've got to say it was well worth it. I love this movie, and I was hoping for a long time we'd be getting this on blu, so I'm glad to finally have it. It owes a lot to Stand By Me, and was a staple of my childhood.

The PQ is actually really quite good. A solid 3.5 or 4. Anyone else pick it up yet?

Loved this film as well when I was a kid. I'll definitely pick this up once the price drops.

Man its pretty disappointing this movie doesn't have a larger fanbase. Probly a bunch of people "grew up" with their movie taste and those are the kind that have the DVD MAYBE and wouldnt be into HD candy.

I hope this title does better than it has so far with regards to this site :P

I agree, below 15$ and ill get it, 17 is asking a bit much for a catalog family movie. One query...

Is it region free? I'm skeptical since its 20th cent fox.

I remember thinking Squints was the coolest guy ever for tricking Wendy into kissing him. It was amazing. She's quite the cutie though...at least was when I was little.

I'm actually surprised it doesn't have a bigger fanbase as well. It always seemed so popular when I was younger. But again, that may be because I grew up on it and so did all my friends. Outside of that, maybe not as many people enjoyed it as we did.

Is the audio on this really DTS-HD MA, or is it lossy DTS? I've heard both, so I have no idea what encode this has, and no review has been posted yet.

I think this is my favorite baseball movie because so many things in it capture the time period. I think Glassroots and Walts Ghost will enjoy this clip:

Couldn't find a quick clip for my favorite part, "You throw like a girl!"

Thank you, Jim. Such a great scene, and my favorite in the movie.

It is DTS-HD MA, but don't expect a lot. And I would have to disagree just a little with the above poster on PQ. I give it a 3.5 tops, 3.0 most of the time. Lots of soft shots IMHO. But still the best quality this movie has ever been, for $12 at WM is worth it!

Yea, there was definitely a bit of softness in some shots, but the movie really did look good. It's the best it has ever looked, and I don't think it'll ever look any better. I'm actually really content with it looks. It still has a great film feel, but it's much clearer then I've ever seen it. And no little specs of dust or anything.

Is the PQ much better than the DVD? I have the DVD and purchased the BR on 3/16 at Wal-Mart for $15. But I haven't opened it yet. I've been burned many, many times when replacing DVDs. I expect a very noticeable difference throughout most of the film in order to justify an upgrade. Has anyone compared the BR directly with the DVD?
Panasonic 58" V10
Toshiba Regza 42"
Vizio 37"
Panasonic BD-60
Toshiba XA2, A-35 & A-3
HD DVD - 136
Blu-Ray - 271 and growing
DVD - 237
