Default 3D Blu-ray Packaging Discussion

I don't know if this has been asked before and I don't know if this thread goes here... Suppose that I buy a movie that has been released in 3D in theatres, like Toy Story 3 for example. When the move is released on BD, will the 2D and 3D versions of the movie be released on the same box, with a Blu-ray 3D "brand" on top of the box, or will they be separate releases? (I know that this is an anal retentive question lol)

In theory it should be the same disc. Without the 3d player, your 2d player just ignores the 3d extension.

i don't get this so you are gonna have to have a 3D player and a 2D player if you would like to chose either seeing 2D movies or 3D movies?

No, 3D BD players will be able to play the 2D version of the movie. and also play regular 2D movies.

Current players will do what 42041 said.

Uh, not really. The Vizio 3D TV's are less expensive than most current comparable sets, and 2-3 years from now the 3D transmitter should be a standard feature on pretty much all new HDTV's

No, expensive is the $4,500 MSRP on the Samsung 55" 240hz backlit LED set.

$3500 for a 72" 480hz 3D-ready backlit LED set is a steal.

Default Telling from the Blu Ray packaging if its Anaglyph 3D or the shutter glasses 3D type

With regards to this.
http://forum.blu-ray.com/newbie-disc...ml#post3638923

When I see Blu Ray films in the shop that say 3D on the cover, I wondered if there is an easy way to tell from the Blu Ray Packaging/cover if that particular Blu Ray film is in Anaglyph 3D or the 3D type that makes use of the shutter glasses, i.e. Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs.

Thanks in advance.

There is an official logo for Blu-Ray 3D on the cover that is only found on 3D Full HD discs not anaglyph 3D. Thats one simple way to tell them apart. Another is there will usually be a disclaimer about how the 3D requires a 3D television that you won't find on an anaglyph disc

Default 3D Blu-ray Offers New Packaging Opportunities

3D Blu-ray Offers New Packaging Opportunities

Replicator Technicolor estimates 30 3D Blu-ray discs are being produced for this year and next, but most titles announced so far have been tied to specific hardware. They include DreamWorks Animation, Imax and Giant Screen Films tied to Samsung (DreamWorks’ “Shrek” films, How to Train Your Dragon and Monsters vs. Aliens, Imax’s Into the Deep and Galapagos, and Giant Screen Films’ Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs); Universal Studios Home Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment tied to Panasonic 3D hardware (Coraline and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, respectively); and Warner Home Video with LG Electronics Sony Electronics (Imax Under the Sea 3D, Imax Space Station 3D and Imax Deep Sea 3D).

Default 3D Title Packaging Discussion (Slipcovers & Collectible Packaging)

I'd love to see an ongoing list of 3D titles that are a part of collectible packaging (Steelbooks/Iron Packs/Display Sets). So far I've gone about doing this myself (buying the 3D edition and the collectible and selling off the regular blu where relevant), but hopefully it will start to be standardized in regular release.

So far that I know of:

US (and Canada at least):
Tron Ultimate Edition in Collectible Packaging (Identity Disc pack):

Lion King Trilogy boxed set
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Li...Blu-ray/23464/

Pirates of the Carribean Treasure Chest (4 movie set, incl 1 BD3D)
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Pirate...Blu-ray/25162/

Cars: Director's Edition | Cars / Cars 2 / Mater's Tall Tales / Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy

Germany:
The Last Airbender 3d Steelbook:

Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D Steelbook:

Tron Legacy 3D Steelbook:

Thor Limited Edition 3D steelbook w/ Helmet (?) NEWLY ADDED

France:
RE: Afterlife 3d Steelbook (different art than German release- also includes anaglyph 3D version)

Tron Legacy 3d Steelbook

Thor Helmet (Casque) Edition (Amazon Exclusive): 4 disc set (bd3d/bd/dvd/dc):

Holland:
Drive Angry 3d Metalpak

Italy:
The Hole (2009) 3D Steelbook (region B locked- so, caveat emptor):
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Ho...Blu-ray/20235/

China:
Battle For Terra Metalpak (http://www.gouduo.com/ware_16321.html)

Thailand:
Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy Steelbook NEWLY ADDED (http://www.boomerangshop.com/web/pro...spx?pid=602441)

If anyone hears about any others please post and I'll keep this up to date. Seems like it won't be hard for a while yet. I think it bodes well that the ID disc Tron included the 3D version. Hopefully that means that Disney will be pushing its premium type collectible editions of Pirates 4, Thor, Captain America etc to have 3D versions. Although Tangled didn't have any cool 3D editions so who knows.
Now running in 3D with the LG Cinema 3D (nominally showing 3D in 1080i per eye) 47LW6500 (up-or-down-or-side-graded from a 50" Sammy 3D Plasma) and a Benq W1070 and a 100" screen, and controlling it with a Harmony 880.

Apparently, Pirates of the Caribbean has a treasure chest packaging coming out that includes On Stranger Tides 3d.
