I'd say the immersion sets would be out for the better part of two years, then we'd see individual releases (which would allow the number of available Blu-Audio releases to climb in the meantime) allowing for better sales of the individual albums. Sell to the Hardcores first, then the fence sitters, then the J6Ps.

I'd love to, but I have enough on my hands with the new Beatles vinyl remasters scheduled for later this year.
I will definitely pick up the WYWH SACD though as a start!

The DSotM SACD is like heaven or something.
I would be fine with just picking up the WYWH SACD as well and that's a big savings. It's great that such a extensive set is being prepared though because those records are masterpieces.

I just caved and ordered DSOTM and WYWH. The latter has been one of my favorite albums ever. I only wish they'd give Meddle the same treatment. Just imagine Echoes in High Resolution multi-channel audio! I think I'm more excited now about this than the Star Wars Blu-Rays!
I only wish I had ordered yesterday--the price climbed about $16 since on Amazon. Oh, well, pre-order price guarantee, right? Let's hope it drops from now 'till the release. I'm still going to look out for the WYWH SACD and order it when available, if only to have another use for my SACD player, and to have it to go along with my DSOTM SACD! So excited! |

Here's an article from Rolling Stone. Nick Mason was interviewed for this and they provide some comments.

The truth is most inside the major labels believe physical media is about to disappear completely, outside of token releases. Every year a classic release like the Pink Floyd sets get pushed back, there goes 10% to 20% of total sales. There are just no more retail stores to sell music, outside of a few pop CDs.

Why in the hell are they bothering with this if physical media is disapearing? What took and is taking so long with so many other catelogs if they are so concerned about this?

Was there any mention of Animals being deluxe packaged and remastered too?
When the prices fall I will add these Floyd packages to my collection. This is really good news overall (IMHO). Long live packaged media.

What rinky dinky box sets! Nothing like Neil Young's colossal and titan "Anthology" box set series. As I said expect a proper re-release done on Blu-Ray in the years down the road.

Gee, Nick, not so negative. Not when David Gilmour just did a surprise appearance during one of Roger Waters' The Wall concerts, performing Comfortably Numb together:
Blu-ray releases should be perfect representations of their cinema counterparts.

DSOTM and WYWH are pretty thorough. No BD audio on THE WALL is very dissapointing though.
