Is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory worth importing from the UK? - Blu-ray Forum

Would someone please explain this to me? I was looking for this movie on BD today and found that it is still not released...but then I saw this one:

Charlie [IMPORT]

What exactly is this? It says import, but it also says it's in English. Please educate me.

It's from 101 Distribution. They are importers of blu-ray titles released in other countries. Yes, it will have an English track, yes it is a BD disc.
The price is higher than a US release, for sure.

Yup, I got my copy from them for £9.98 (and it still is 50% off).

The UK version is fantastic.

You can buy it here if your in the States for about $18-$20 shipped to your door.

Just use your American ID and password for everything. You don't do anything different than when you order an American movie.

The movie disc has no compatibility issues with US players.

The UK import looks great and if you've seen the DVD you'll notice a few additional scenes on the BD that were added to make it an extended cut.

Thanks! Ordered! $22.42. I've been waiting for this movie for months. It's my first legitimate double-dip. We also bought Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back on BD after owning it on dvd, but that was only because Mewes signed our dvd. We took it out of circulation, but still wanted a watchable movie...and why buy a dvd?

As far as movie quality goes, you’ll have to decide that on your own. Many people criticise this version when compared to the Willy Wonka version (nostalgia is likely the issue here). I liked it on first viewing, and since my three year old loves to watch it (over and over it seems), it continues to grow on me as a movie. It doesn’t have so much depth that new bits are realised with each viewing, but it just hasn’t gotten stale yet – much of that due to my love for Burton’s visual style.

I think the UK release for the original will also be a digibook, which I have no need for. I was hoping the UK release would be a ordinary BD case

Yeah, I've experienced this. I prefer this version, as it feels truer to the book. The Willy Wonka version was geared too heavily for kids of that generation IMO. It's very bubble-gum. The book was far creepier...like this movie that bears its actual name.
