I hope this is sarcasm, considering how much worse it could be.
Wasn't there a Indy trilogy released on VHS around the same time as the Star wars Special Editions, that had a bunch of special effects redone Star Wars SE style? |

Lucas did create IJ, wrote and produced the films....

he wrote that because Spielberg said a few weeks ago that he wasn't gonna alter anything in his films from now on (i think it was for Jaws and 1942 or something...) and then this comes out that he fixes something lol. ironic.

And the Indy trilogy DVD's had nothing changed, besides the reflection of the snake. |

The Indiana Jones films must be one of my most anticipated releases in the format. Knowing the transfers are already finished gives me high hopes for an early 2012 release
. Considering "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is easily one of my favorite films these news are extremely exciting.

For the changes, every director and producer using their prerogative is now likely to be bashed by some people. Brightness? Is the change really a big deal, so as to fundamentally alter the films forever? I don't think so. It's a bit much to make a big deal out of.

I don't equate brightening a shot with tinkering. That's just part of the transfer process. Realize, the quote from Marshall says "Spielberg felt it was too dark." Not necessarily "Spielberg felt it was ALWAYS too dark." It very well may have just been a hair darker than it originally was when he viewed it for approval and that was the only note he had for them to correct. Again, I saw the new restoration last night and I certainly didn't notice anything amiss in that scene or anywhere else (and no one else would without some dumb quote floating around the internet). There's been no changes to the color timing, they haven't replaced any of the effects with digital redos, the fly still flys into Belloq's mouth... They didn't CHANGE the movie and, to me, that's what Spielberg is talking about.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
Accuracy isn't. |

The brightness level is a judgment call every time and has varied over the last 30 years. This is totally a nothing issue.

Jesus, some of you guys are just plain ridiculous, I know some are being sarcastic, but seriously, since the LOTR episode, it looks like there's always one guy nitpicking because not everything is exactly how he'd like it to be.
Haters gonna hate, whatever. |
