Hey crackinhedz, have you checked on the Ebay auction I showed you earlier? It is at around $660 right now with 50 minutes to go, the unit is sealed brand new and the shipping for it is $38. Not a bad deal.

Here it is again:

Yeah, that would be a great price for a new Pioneer! unfortunately I won a Monster 5100 Power Conditioner yesterday, so my funding is a little low right now.

Don't stone me, but other than wattage, what are the differences between the Pioneer VSX-91TXH and the Onkyo 605? Both are receivers with HDMI 1.3 ports and support lossless audio. Something more?

Sound quality, number of proprietary built-in features and build quality.

Question More Questions for Pioneer 91/92 Owners . . .

I've been reading up on the Pioneers and I really like what I see so far. I've never owned an Elite receiver (just regular Pioneer line). In higher end receivers I've had a Sony ES and now a Denon.

Here are a few things I want to know that I can't find on their site/owner's manual:
  1. Do the speaker terminals allow standard "push-in" banana plugs?
  2. On the remote - Is it backlit? Does it do macros? Does the display interact with the receiver?
  3. How long does the auto-calibrate function take?
  4. Do the reciever's on-screen displays (setup menus, etc.) show through your HDMI-connected display?
  5. How good are the custom soundfields? I like to use the concert hall and stadium settings on my Denon for different types of material.
  6. Are the inputs renameable?

Everything I've know about it so far is making me lean in the Pioneer direction. I don't necessarily like the looks of the Onkyo, and I feel that it may be a cheaper build quality and not as reliable.

hey all, i am in a real battle deciding if i want an onkyo receiver again or go for a pioneer elite this time. i have been comparing the onkyo 705 model to the elite 91 model. what i wanted to know is if i am going out to get e 1080 tv and a bluray player, does the 1080p upscaling on the higher end models worth the extra money? i mean does the upscaling work well on sd dvd's vs BD dvd's?

i have seen upscaling, upconversion and pass through. not sure what the difference is with the 3 and if i am able to enjoy the BD movies with out dropping a ton of money on the high end models that do upscaling?

any help or info would be appreciated. thanks

Hey all, well i purchased a pioneer elite 91 HT receiver today, brand new sealed from the factory for $694.00 shipped. i think that is a pretty good deal do you? i noticed that most of them are going for like $1000-$1200 at most stores and online.

also scored on a brand new panny 10a player today as well for $500 shipped with the free 5 movies in the box. thought that was a good deal also.

just wanted to share the good news. all thats left is the 1080p tv to buy.

oh the choices are so hard????

Hands down the Elite for me. They really are superior products to Onkyo. The Integra line from Onkyo is more comparable. Elite actually hands picks all of their parts for their products. If its not of standard it gets recycled. Onkyo is a good deal, but definitely not the better of the two.

ya i was thinking the same thing. i have had 2 onkyo's in the past and loved them. this time i went out on a limb and bought the elite model 91. i have not received it yet, but am hoping its easy to set up and work. i am so use to my onkyo that i know it by heart. sometimes change is go though.

I just set up my dad's vsx94txh and it was not too bad. It took me a couple of hours but he has like 6 sources being connected, and I went through Audio and Video functions. It was fun for me, and it wasnt very difficult. He doesnt have a bluray player yet, so i didnt get to check out the new audio formats, but it still sounds great.

does it really matter that the

Onkyo 805 has/is

1. .05% THD
2. THX Ultra 2 Certified

VS.
The Pioneer Elite 92THX has/is
1. 09% THD
2. THX Select 2 Certified

Of course it does! In addition to the numbers generated by engineers and pencil pushers, the Onkyo has better warmth and tonal balance overall. I try to steer clear of any Pioneer audio products.

I would say Pioneer since Onkyo sold their soul to HDDVD and pioneer is a member of the BDA.

Besides that, listen to it yourself and decide, but format war aside id still go with Pioneer.
