Depends on which franchise you like more, or the value of what you're getting. LotR you're getting three brilliant films, with 9 DVDs of extras, totalling 26 hours apparently. Star Wars, you're getting 6 films, with three BDs of extras totalling more than 40 hours. I am getting both, but I'd say go for the Star Wars set in terms of value of what you're getting, even though it's more expensive.

What are you talking about? You have a 4 month separation between releases. Save enough from each paycheck to get to a resonable amount to buy Star Wars when it releases, and buy LOTR when it comes out.

Anyways, I would choose the LoTR set and then just save up a little each month and get the star wars set as well. (It's bound to drop in price by release date) |

Fair enough. It's up to you though. I'm putting my faith in the Star Wars transfers, I'm getting LOTR EE's because I don't have the films on DVD, only VHS. But like I said, it's the value of what you get that should be important.

I agree with you. If I had the money, i would be purchasing the EEs release day, but i have to pay bills off first.

Lotr Will drop maybe even by black Friday. A lot of people already own those 9 DVDs special features. So it isn't too difficult to wait it out for a more reasonable price. Go with Star Wars.

post like this, which have always strongly gotten on my nerves: how should we know your taste?? star wars and lord of the rings are two different franchises. besides we are not talking car purchase here. the hour you waste on this post and wondering what you should do, you could have gone out and earned the extra money to buy both sets!! star wars is only being released in september. that gives you 3 months to come up with 80 dollars. if you can't earn 80 bucks extra in 3 months to buy a set, should you be spending money on blus in the first place or should you have bigger problems to attend to? like i said, no personal offense, but what you buy is YOUR decision. we can't take it from you. your own opinion should be strong enough to decide what to do. but if you really need the influence its like i wrote; it think you should concentrate on earning money. |

Meh, LotR are clearly the better films and more consistent franchise. Having said that, I haven't seen Star Wars since I was a kid so I'm looking forward to those more.... also I've decided to finally read LotR and don't want to watch the EE Blu-rays until after I have... which might be a while, so SW is definitely my top priority!
I also don't know why people make these threads because obviously there's no way we can tell what the OP will prefer... Last edited by nametag; 06-19-2011 at 12:39 PM. |

Lord of the Rings EE: 55 pounds, TE: 15 Pounds.
Can't recall that the Star Wars DVD's really dropped in price and the Blu Rays have a higher price/value (if you divide the total cost with the number of films. Assuming you like the prequels of course). Not too difficult a choice if you only look at the numbers, the personal enjoyment of these movies not factored in of course |

LOTR.
It's a definite pre-order for me. The films are amazing. SW has gone downhill due to self-indulgence. Lucas is only releasing his Special Editions and they have already stated that they're holding material for future releases so why waste your hard-earned money? |

But..... If I had to choose, I would choose Star Wars, as I ALREADY own the extra discs (DVD's) in the LOTR:EE. At some point they will be released seperately. You can wait until then to get them and save up some BIG dough!
Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?
