Nice to hear, although undoubtedly it will receive a Criterion release at some point, especially based on their own statements.

I hope so and I hope it includes the theatrical cut along with this supposed 6 hour cut.

God, I would love the 6 hour cut. I've seen the one in theaters twice already. I can't get enough

Will a 6 hour cut even fit on one BD disc?

It would be spread across two BDs, most likely. The Criterion release of Carlos is on two discs and that's five or so hours long.

Slightly off topic but how does the CC decide what and what not to add to its label? I know there was a push a few years back for The Dark Knight to be put into the CC, and that would have been all sorts of epic.

Why would Warner license it to Criterion instead of keeping all of the profits for themselves? On the other hand, smaller, more obscure, and arthouse films have a better chance with Criterion.

A definite buy for me. Fascinating and thought provoking, can't wait to see it again.

Maybe there will be some sort of Benjamin Button scenario.

I'm sure Criterion will attempt to release this movie. If they've already released two of his movies, with Badlands in the making, I don't see why they wouldn't be interested. They've already made it clear through several posts and tweets that they loved The Tree of Life anywho.

This is opening near me in a couple of days, but I'm considering just waiting for the blu-ray. Seems like the sort of film best experienced in a quiet, high-end HT rather than a packed movie theater with crummy audio/video.

Its possible Criterion made a deal with Fox similar to Universal and Brazil/Fear and Loathing, and we'll see their version in a year or so. I only say this because Malick seems to like working with Criterion and maybe he made a push for Criterion to put out this film. Who knows. I will definitely be buying Fox's version and will double dip for Criterion's if there ever is one.

Loved this film. Saw it twice already in theaters. Would be awesome if Fox released the normal cut in October and then Criterion somehow gets the rights to release the 6 hour cut. God, they would do such an excellent job on it. Tons of features, proper image and audio and probably an awesome case/package!

I think Fox has allowed some of their films into The Criterion Collection, so it wouldn't be unheard of for The Tree of Life. I'd love to see a Criterion Collection version, although if Fox produced a Blu-ray that was at the same quality packaging, features, design, etc.-wise as Sony's Social Network release then I wouldn't be disappointed.
