I am slowly working on my home theater system and have purchased all the speakers in the past few weeks. While making sure all the speakers work, before I move them into the basement and get everything set up, I noticed an issue
The setup I currently have: Center - Polk Audio CS20 Front - Polk TSI400 Rear - Polk Audio OWM3 Rear centers -Polk Audio RC60i (In-Ceiling) Receiver - Onkyo TX-SR606 The current issue I am having is that when I turn on the receiver the front left channel does not always seem to turn on. At first I thought the speaker was defective but I swapped it with the right front right speaker and still have the same issue. If I either turn it off and back on again it will usually work or I have to switch through different speaker modes, such as from theater dimensional to mono and back and that will make the speaker work. Any ideas what could be causing this, is the receiver just not powerful enough? I have rechecked the connections multiple times and even run new speaker wire (thinking there was a short) Second with the issue I have been having above and the fact I would like to have a separate receiver for the home theater (keeping 606 upstairs), I would like some thoughts/suggestions on a new receiver. I would like to stay within the Onkyo family, because after listening to others, this brand sounded the best to my ear (just a personal preference). I have been contemplating between the 717, 809, 818 (of course I would have to wait for price drops on some), or is there another one that I am overlooking. The system would be used for (75% movies, 25% games) and would like to stay under a $750 budget. Thanks for all your help. |

Glad that I'm not the only person who has a Onkyo receiver and all Polk speakers & sub (HT-RC360 receiver, 6 T15 speakers with a CS180 center and PSW10 sub owner here). As far as your issue goes, could it be something wrong with the speaker input on the receiver?

Sound tedious, but if you disconnect the speakers from the terminals, and check for play at the base of the terminal. If that's not it that particular channel may be going out. Contact Onkyo support. Does it do it in all sound modes? Or just specific ones? Right now the 818 is $679 through amazon and newegg

How do you like the 818? I've been thinking about pairing it with my Polks.
