Well, it doesn't look like the extras will be included. Depends on how much emphasis you put on that. I'll be keeping both.

God damn....

I had basically only one day to wait (pay day) to afford a bunch of sales on amazon..and it goes away?!

Just one more day and I'd have gotten this to go with 8 pound Pulp Fiction, and scream 1 & 4.

Seeing as it's just a documentary, I'll probably be content with the DVD.

But there's always the risk I'll go into obsessive-collector mode....

I'm going to slip it into a 2 disc case and throw the other disc in there.

Although its entirely possible that other regions will release it now as well!

I've actually known about the proposed German Blu for a while, but apparently there were problems I can't discuss openly.

And why is the remake glove on there? lol. They don't even cover that movie.

Because the rights were never cleared for home video. If they were cleared originally for the 1999 DVD set, you can bet they'd be on the blu-ray, but Warner can't be bothered(and I'm sure they don't know of their existence).

The Blus only get half the films presented right.
Correct color timing? Based on what? I'm not sure if the BDs feature the correct color timing, or not (I imagine WB didn't consult the directors/dps on these transfers), but I can tell you this much. In pt. 4, the "You shouldn't have buried me. I'm not dead." line was adr'd in after the fact, and was not spoken by Freddy on set. That didn't matter when I saw it theatrically (6x), because you could only see him in silhouette, and couldn't tell that his mouth wasn't moving. Flash forward to it's VHS release, and the contrast was boosted to the point that you can see detail in his face, and subsequently notice that he's not speaking during that line of dialogue. This also carried over to the DVD releases as well. So, while I can't say for certain that the BD's color timing is accurate (more goes into it than contrast levels), I can say with 100% certainty that the VHS/DVDs are not (for pt. 4, anyway).

The audio, however is a different story...

Considering you can see VVI's "Love Kills" video at least once a week on VH1 Classics' 'Metal Mania' show, I'm sure they know it exists. Can't speak for the Goo Goo Dolls clip, however...

Could you give us any information about this release? Will the extras really not be included? Region free?

Well, so far there isn't a German release available as a boxset, only the first movie. But since the non-German Blu-rays (Uk for example) have German language options on all the discs, including the bonus PAL DVD, I'd say if a German boxset was in the works, it would be completely identical to the UK set.

While I do love the set, I hope the PQ/AQ of ANoES didn't bloat your expectations for the rest of the set, because none of the others are nearly as good. They aren't bad by any stretch, but its clear that the other titles didn't receive the TLC that pt. 1 recieved.

I told you all I know in PMs. I'll see if my friend knows anything about the region coding and get back to you.

1 - Based on the Elite 10th anniversary LD, whose transfer was approved by Jacques Haitkin. The DVD is closer to that, but the Blu-Ray/Infinifilm is pretty far removed(blue when not meant to be, scenes darker). Is the Blu-Ray extremely nice looking? Yes, I don't debate that, but it ain't proper.

Part 2, though, oddly enough, is actually pretty close to what Haitkin intended when shooting. He was upset by how the first film looked in theaters, he purposely overexposed the second film, so it couldn't be projected too dark like the first film was(pesky projector bulbs only running on half power) It's actually the one I call the best in the set, picture wise. No complaints on that.

3 also had an Elite remaster approved by the DP - it's closer to what the DVD presented. Blu-Ray is way too dark.

4 was designed to look almost like a comic book, so it's intended to be very colorful. The Blu-Ray is borderline ugly at times it's so dark. The print seems ratty and can't be the same one used for the 99 DVD. Freddy was silhouetted in US theaters, but I had heard from many international fans that when they saw it he was not. They were still doing pickup shots for fx on the film a WEEK before the release date, so it makes sense that they didn't exactly have enough time to get the film exactly as intended visually in such a short time. They appeared to have fixed it for international markets later on.

5 - about the same as 4 on the negative condition. It's almost as if 4 and 5 are dupes and not the original negatives. Framing is also too loose at times. I swear I saw the towel Lisa Wilcox was wearing as she busts out of the door in the opening Nightmare, when she's supposed to be naked. I'll check again later to confirm. This was also present in the open matte VHS/LD. Aside from that, I give it a pass.

FD - not much to complain about here, except it being the home video cut. Picture looks like it's meant to... drab. Never been a good looking film.

WCNN - Nothing to complain about here. Looks and sounds as I remember it theatrically. Excellent soundmix.
