Get the Shout Factory disc. More extras, lossless audio, better PQ and unaltered opening credits.

Likewise. Not overly fussed as I already have the Shout Edition and I really picked this up for Terror in the Aisles.

Unfortunately living in the UK, the Shout Factory one is no good for me, unless I shell out for a region free player. The 40gb, or in fact any PS3's I have been informed, are region locked. The Universal one will have to do me for now

So it's still no place to buy this and be sure that you get the fixed version? Amazon sounds interesting but as I understand not all has got the correct version?

Why are we even talking about the Universal release anymore after the Shout! Factory version came out?!

Sure Shout fixes some white specle/spots in the picture but they also used filtering/dnr so you lose some clear detail in comparison. Lossless and unaltered credit is fixed on the replacement disc and Universal have less extras BUT one very good one. I own the Shout but I really seem to favor Universal after some reading and watching comparisons.

I love Scream (Shout) Factory but the Universal edition is sharper, Quite obvious in motion.

Don't have the disc yet, but didn't Cliff state there would be no DNR used?

I do know for the Universal disc, there are corrected versions out there, with the Akkad credit AND lossless audio.

Well good comparisons don't lie. Might not be the usual waxy dnr but is has some serious filtering going on.

I haven't personally watched the Scream Factory version yet, but that observation by you is likely due to the sharpening filter that Universal applies to most of its catalog transfers on Blu-ray. The filter creates the illusion the image is sharper, but close inspection will reveal halos and other problems. That's why the versions look different and the Scream Factory BD is closer to how the film actually looks. Videophiles would prefer the Scream Factory edition.

Just because an image is softer and less detailed does not automatically mean serious filtering has been applied.

I've looked over the caps and I hate performing analysis outside of a calibrated display in my own presence, but sharpening can often accentuate the grain structure of film. It would really take someone that has had a look at the camera negatives or this particular telecine HD master to know which is which, in this case.
