Correct would be the mambo section of Dance At The Gym being red (not orange, like on this disc - red as in red-hot), and then DISSOLVING into the blue just before the pullback to reveal the title. The little green blip was a mistake and stupid, just as the fade out/in is a mistake and stupid - when I first saw it I wondered if they did the fade out/in to cover up the green mistake.

the blu ray has it the brown/orange color in the overture when it should be red? wow, they really screwed up.

edit: the video on youtube that says it is from the 2011 blu ray the section of the overture in question as red, so I am not sure what whitesheik is talking about.

Doesn't anyone there watch the movie before they begin mass production of the blu rays? How was it not caught?
Because it's a minor thing, perhaps, before the film even starts? I'm not downplaying the significance, but c'mon... very few people in the great realm of things would ever have noticed such a thing. And if you think otherwise, that's crazy.

Instead of needlessly ranting, why not be happy they are actually fixing the fade out thing?

An expert who really knew the film would have noticed it. A studio like Fox should very easily be able to get such a person to sit down and watch the print before it was released. Fox would so if it truly cared about quality control.

will people who buy the thing be able to exchange the discs? Are they also going to include the 6 track audio which was inexplicably left off the current release of the movie.

Wal-Mart

Walmart has this out early. I picked up the 3 disc version (2 BD + DVD) today for $19.

Despite the issues (which don't bother me that much), it was a good price and I'll just exchange it for a fixed copy if they ever have an exchange program.

Sure, if it was Fox who supervised the restoration. But all signs point to they didn't, it was MGM. Mistakes happen like this at least on a few titles a year and sometimes they don't get a response. This apparently has been notified and they're working on it. So that's a start but obviously it would cost them more money to pull every single disc they produced to repackage a new one. Buy it and call their customer service when the information is provided.

Yes, an EXPERT. Film creatives do not run the studios anymore, businessmen do. Which expert do you suggest they hire, to screen EVERY film that comes out? Just not feasible.

And yes, they've already said there will be a disc exchange.

Was this 6 track audio present on the DVD?

No, just a standard 3-disc case with a slipcover.

I'm convinced Walmart believes they're invincible and above the rules. First COD, then Deathly Hallows, now West Side Story.

every film? no. Classics like this one? yes. As for being businessmen, I would think it would be good business to release movies without flaws.

Warbler, I don't know what you're seeing on You Tube, but the color on the Blu-ray is most assuredly more orange than red. I, you see, am not watching it on You Tube, I'm watching the actual disc. I have seen this film too many times not to know what the color is about and the rest of the color in the film proper is perfect.

I don't know. To me, it looks red. Of course, all I can see is what is on youtube. Maybe if I had the actual disc it would look orange. Either way, I accept the fact that it is suppose to look red.

Default The sound of the Blu-Ray is excellent, despite the mixing errors.

Quote:
even though it was pretty much transferred correctly the left-center, right-center channels of sound on 'The Sound of Music' is brilliantly mixed on the bluray - if it's evident on the WSS disc, that's remarkable.
I am sure that you judge it by yourself, but I can assure you that the sound of the 7.1 Blu-Ray track is in the niche of high quality tracks. Apart from a few minor, albeit quite irrelevant, discrepancies in the vocals, as in the "Something's Coming" segment that contains a slightly muffled voice of the singer, all the rest is truly great, the best I have heard so far.

I still have with me a CD that was made from the original audio stems instead of the original Columbia Lp, and it was fairly easy to compare the two tracks sound-wise. It is, in a nutshell, vastly superior to the last DVD release.

It is thus a pity that the same technicians didn't take the opportunity to make amendments to the mixing. As forum user whitesheik first pointed out, the theatrical presentation is not yet fully recovered, and these are important details for home theater hobbyist and film collector.

By the way, as far as I can tell Fox is currently the sole world-wide distributor of all M-G-M titles and it is up to the latter to give them the corrected, restorated, film transfer.
