So we got home one day early from our short vacation and I'm glad we cut it short because FedEx had left my Seaton SubMersive HP on the front porch this afternoon. I haven't hooked it up yet as I'm waiting for a buddy to help me carry it down to the basement tomorrow or Thursday, I'm hoping it's tomorrow. My previous sub was the Paradigm Sub 15 which is no slouch but I'm hoping it doesn't hold a candle to the SubMersive. Here's some pics after I unboxed it,

Thanks HTG. I'm excited to try this sub out to see what all the hype is about, it's my first ID sub. I may try out running both subs together just to see how it will sound as I've still going to have the Sub 15 for a few more days. I'll be sure to let you know if I need any help.

I got lucky and had a neighbor help me bring the sub downstairs, so far it sounds great but there's one thing that's going to take some getting used to. The Sub 15 would really shake everything, even the sub floor. With the vibration free cabinet of the SubMersive the shaking has been greatly reduced. Now it's just really tight distortion free bass. I still need to do some work on the positioning and setup but it sounds great so far.

I've owned a few subs before but only one other high performance one like this. My first sub was a Mission, it was a 10' but I don't remember the model number. Next was dual Paradigm DSP 3200's and after those was the Paradigm Sub 15 with the Perfect Bass Kit.

The Sub 15 is the only one that comes close to the SubM but still can't quite compete. The SubM has greater output and goes lower with less distortion. For the best results with the Sub 15 I had to use a high pass filter at 20hz, with content under 20hz the Sub 15 starts to struggle play to the content at descent or high volumes. The SubM has no such trouble, I've tried as along as my ears hold out to get this thing to sound bad but it hasn't happened yet. It will reach a point where it just doesn't get any louder but still stays composed when you hit this point.

This sub took some getting used to at first, the Paradigm cabinet vibrated a lot and this caused you to really be able to hear and feel it interacting with the room. The dual opposed vibration free cabinet of the SubM does not do this, I think this also contributes to the cleaner sound. At first it seems like it has less output but once you get used to it you realize that it's not down on output the bass is just cleaner with less distortion.

Before buying this sub I was seriously considering the paradigm Signature Sub 1, I'm glad I took a chance on the SubM as to me it seems to go lower with less distortion again and has more output. I listened to the Sub 1 three different times while deciding whether to buy it or not, I haven't listened to both in the same room before. The price is great as well, for only a couple of hundred more you can buy two SubM hp's for the price of one Digm Sub 1. This pair will best the single Paradigm sub every time.

I plan to buy another next year and highly recommend the SubM HP as the best sub I've ever heard or owned. You won't be disappointed.

I agree with Aces High on all of his assessments, I was using one older Paradigm Reference Servo 15 in my room. After trying another "unnamed" sub that didn't deliver the way I preferred, I picked up the SubM after Aces High recommend it. I did do some other research and pretty much every where I read how this was THE best sub on the market.

It has brought a whole new level of realism to my room. Not only is bass abundant, low and tight, but it blends in like the sub isn't even there. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. you can see the SVS graph on my HT gallery link to the left. I left my Paradigm sub installed, it is sub A and the SubM is sub B.

I would like to add another one next year myself, but I don't really think I need it!

Thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead.

I received the Dayton Omni Mic today and have been taking some measurements of the SubM HP. The first graph is no eq 1/6th octave smoothing, the second is Audyessy XT32 on 1/6th octave smoothing and the third is eq on 1 octave smoothing. The last one is heavily smoothed similar to what you's see from Anthem's ARC or Audyessy Sub EQ, not exactly how much they smooth the graphs but it looks close.

I would think your crossover would be best around 60 hz looking at those graphs, isnt that right?

60 or 70 would be good as the sub is still at 75db at 70 hz, the same as the mains are calibrated to. Just so happens I settled on 70 by ear. Most likely luck though.

I'm going to measure both the mains and the sub together tomorrow and then get an even clearer picture of what's going on.

I think we get used to hearing things and can start to pick up what sounds best to our ears, it was not luck.

Why no action in this thread?
I thought the SubM was the best subwoofer on the planet?

Can someone post links to reviews of this subwoofer?
Thanks!

The guy's eyeballs are probably still bouncing around in his skull. Makes it hard to focus on a computer screen. He'll be OK.

It's not. The best is that thing is the M1 Abrams tank. But if you're talking about something you can use at home, it very well might be.

AVS has a pretty good thread in a shootout with about 6 other subs..... Also AcesHigh on this forum owns the SubM and a pair of Epic's. He has compared them also.

So the upcoming Terraform XL sub will blow away the SubM HP when it's finally introduced?

Yes it should, it's going to be twice the size and twice the price. I'm looking forward to the SubM XL, dual opposed 18's with a 4kw amp. It'll be produced before the Terraform as well. The design goal of the SubM XL is to have the same amount of output as two SubM HP stacked.
