Default Monsters vs Aliens, HTTY Dragon & Megamind 3D - Best Buy Exclusives - Sept 11

On September 11th, 2011

Paramount/Dreamworks home entertainment will release
3D versions of:

How to Train Your Dragon 3D Blu-ray

Megamind 3D Blu-ray

Monsters vs. Aliens 3D Blu-ray

as Best Buy exclusives.

Full retail price will be $34.99 for each title, but you can expect a lower sale price during the first week of release, in addition to a possible buy more, save more promotion...just like there was with the Fox releases of Narnia, Rio and Ice Age last week.

The status of the Shrek and Kung Fu Panda Samsung exclusive titles are still unknown at this time, and are likely to remain exclusives throughout the holiday shopping season. It is also unknown how long the exclusivity of these Best Buy titles will last.
Disc specs are expected to be identical to the previously released versions from Samsung, though additional 2D, DVD and Digital Copies may be offered.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
3D TV: Panasonic TC-P58VT25 | RECEIVER: Onkyo TX-SR708 Network 3D Receiver | BLU-RAY: Sony BDP-S780 w 2D to 3D conversion + 120 GB PS3 SLIM w/500GB Hard Drive Mod | DirecTV HD HR-24 3D Receiver | Mac Mini

This is AWESOME news as I have been waiting for HTTYD on 3D, but is there a link to verify this? If this is true it looks like Kung Fu Panda 2 will probably be the last exclusive for Samsung.

I never reveal my sources. ;-)

But trust me, they ARE coming.
As far as Panda, I'm pretty sure that a new 3D starter kit will roll out in
September which will replace Megamind with Kung Fu Panda. (Possibly Panda 1 & 2?)

That's fine I totally understand. This is exciting news. I am actually a new Samsung 3D HDTV owner and currently only have three pairs of glasses and am holding off for the possible Kung Fu Panda starter kit. I just hope to god they don't just replace Megamind with Kung Fu Panda and still bundle in Shreks because I won't pay for the bundle if I am gonna pay extra for Shrek AGAIN (I bought the Megamind Bundle).

Hopefully it will either be a Kung Fu Panda bundle with 1 and 2 at a lower price point then the previous bundle or it will be Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 and another dreamworks movie bundled together at the original price. But if it's another Shrek bundle with Kung Fu count me out. I will just buy everything seperate and wait for a retail Kung Fu Panda copy which might not be that long with Megamind releasing on retail rather quickly.

If these include lossless audio (looking at you MvA), I will be all over them! I normally buy from Amazon, but I've been happy to hand Best Buy my money for decently priced 3D movies

I remember reading the standard bluray version of 'Megamind' was a less than stellar transfer - is the 3D version different (i.e, superior??)

I know...that's the big question...will Monsters Vs. Aliens be re-encoded with lossless sound, or will they just repackage the original Samsung exclusive disc in a new case w/slipcover?

Yes, the 2D playback of the 3D version of Megamind (at least the version included in the Samsung kit) is VASTLY superior to the standard 2D version on the market.

I'll probably buy MvA regardless to support 3D movies in general, but it really will stand out to anyone who has been following these releases as the only 3D Blu-ray from a major studio with lossy sound.

Well that's good news. It's about time. I'll be picking up Megamind right away since I already have the other two. I'm curious as to how the general retail version of MvA will turn out though. I assume it will have the HD audio this time.

Seems like a lot of titles being released in the next four months or so.

Great news!

Been wanting HTTYD but not at ebay prices. And if the deal is sweet enough, might pick up Monsters too.

Well this is good news/ bad news for me- good news to see them released but bad because I already paid eBay prices for all 3, LOL! I don't regret it though, being an early adopter has its price And the more great movies like these that see retail release, the more the general public will get interested in 3D TVs.

When you're talking about a possible Kung fu panda 1 & 2 pack, are you talking about an all 3D release or just the second one in 3D? Because I haven't heard (read) a thing about a release of the first one in 3D

And thanks oh so much for the great news that1guypictures

I bought both monsters and aliens and how to train your dragon in regular 2d blu ray. I never bought the 3d versions. I got avatar for free with the blu ray player that I bought.
