Default Help with choosing new headphones

I want a nice pair of headphones for when I move into my college dorm. I have a surround sound system at home, but can't in my dorm. Also can't have it too noisy anyways or I may get complaints. I don't know much about which brands are the best. I've always only used ipod headphones with my ipod. I'll probably mainly use them with my TV and PS3. I've heard of some 5.1/7.1 headphones? A guy at Best Buy recommended Beats Audio. Cord or cordless? Don't think I want to spend too much on them. Probably $100 is my limit. Thanks for any help.

Depends what your after if want Noise Cancelling then Bose tends to make a good Noise Cancelling headphone. I also have a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50 and their are solid IMO are better than the Beats by Dre. You can get a pair on Ebay or Amazon for like a 130.00. I also like Grado, AKG, Sennheiser or Audio Technica.

-in my opinion 5.1 or 7.1 headphones are a myth , since you cant call them 5.1 , there's only 2 channels , and with some echo effects creates the illusion that the sound comes from behind .
- i can recomand you the Philips SHE9800/10 , i have them for like a month , and let me tell you that i am impressed - the sound its great (on my pc-creative x-fi fatality when i listen on well known "bass i love you" , "nuvole bianche" and "on my level" i really feel i have 2 subs mounted on my years , the volume its always below 50% )
- i am also a gamer .
- when you buy a product compare the specs.
-they are cheap for what they offer.
