Default Planet Dinosaur 3D

a BBC doco. Didn't know what to expect. Loaded up the disc menu and it was flat, disapointment sank in. Pushed play, very pleasantly surprised, very nice 3D.

Highly recommended

Unfortunately this will not play in US Blu-ray players since it is encoded in 50i.

Agreed. Dinosaurs, 3D, good combination.

There are a good number of releases that never make it here.

Amazon.com has this up for pre-order now. Looks like we will finally get a US compatible version.

Some awesome 3D in this one. In one memorable shot, the long snout of Spinosaurus pops right out of the screen, virtually life size, so dimensional you could almost grab a tooth.

One thing to be aware of is that this is not the complete series, which I believe was 6 half hour episodes. They compiled some of the best moments from that and re-rendered those scenes in 3D. It's about the length of an Imax documentary, but compared to the 3D Imax prehistory films you get a lot more actual dinosaur footage.

I like the style of the show, they present the scientific case for almost everything they're showing. Compared to BBC's original Walking with Dinosaurs series, the animation can be a bit stilted, and they didn't have the budget to film locations or animatronics on this show, so it's all computer environments this time. The overall effect isn't as naturalistic, but at times it can look incredible.

Yes, saw this in Best Buy on the shelf for 16.99 the other day, but didn't realize this is the one of this thread. 53 minutes I remember reading. Amazon wants 27.99$ I think I read and a pre order.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/planet-d...&skuId=4209084

They also have Small Giants 3D 16.99 and the one about birds flying in 3D, forget the name.

I may just have to see if I can pick this up along with Tiny Giants tomorrow and cancel my Amazon orders. However the Best Buy website still has this listed as coming out on Tuesday the 7th. The website does say that Tiny Giants is available now.

The other documentary coming out is Wings 3D. I think this may have already been released as a Best Buy exclusive called Winged Planet 3D. It is also narrated by David Tennant. Since I already have that I am not going to chance it that these are totally different unless someone can confirm.

Yes, they had Planet Dinosaur in stock at the store, though I would check my local best buy website to see if it's in stock in your area. bestbuy.com

Picked this up today along with Tiny Giants. Neither was in the 3D section, but on an end cap with nature documentaries from BBC.

The 3D in Planet Dinosaur is fairly strong. There are some good pop outs of the dinosaur's heads, they stick right out of the screen. The program itself, however, if fairly typical of dino docs, and this is only one episode of what appears to be a longer series. I would have liked to have seen the whole series, but from what I could find out, this is the only one in 3D. The animation is pretty good also. The entire thing seems to be animated and not dinosaurs inserted into a real world, like Walking with Dinosaurs.

Thanks...looks like I'll pass on this one until I get through my queue.

I haven't watched Walking with Dinosaurs 3D yet (in queue). Heck, I haven't even watched Disney's Dinosaur yet...but I have been on the ride at WDW!
