August 20th 2011 - Official reveal
[Show spoiler]

Quote:
This hour at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Pixar announced details on the two as-yet-untitled feature films slated for release on November 27, 2013 and May 30, 2014.

First up is Pixar's long-awaited dinosaur project, directed by Bob Peterson (co-director/writer, Up), co-directed by Peter Sohn (director, Partly Cloudy), and produced by John Walker (producer, The Incredibles).

The studio's blurb for the film reads:
What if that life-changing asteroid missed Earth? Director Bob Peterson’s hilarious tale depicts a world where dinosaurs never went extinct.
That explains the boy and pet dinosaur in the concept art we first saw two years ago next week.

The second film is directed by Monsters, Inc. and Up director Pete Docter; Ronnie del Carmen (director, Dug's Special Mission) co-directs and Jonas Rivera (producer, Up) teams up with Docter again as producer.
From director Pete Docter comes an inventive new film that explores a world that everyone knows, but no one has seen: inside the human mind.
IndieWIRE's The Playlist blog heard through the grapevine that the script is being written by Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt and is "specifically about the formation of ideas"?

The human mind? This has potential to be the studio's most inventive and original film yet. Indeed, it's being described as "wildly ambitious" even for Pixar.

The release date for the Dinosaur project has been claimed for Disney's adaptation of the fairy-tale "The Snow Queen", "Frozen". I will update the thread when we have word of the new release date for Pixar's dino project.

Cranium Command: the Movie (for us old-school Epcot fans)?

Even then, I knew: That was SO Pixar.

The first project reminds me of a lot of those Once Upon a Time Cartoons, they had a "That's how your brain works" episode. The director of the terrific "Monsters, Inc." and very enjoyable "UP", that's all I need to know. Okay, I confess, they had me at "Pixar".

The second project sounds ... well, interesting, I guess. But I would like to know what direction they are going with a concept like that.

I remember seeing some concept art leak about a film about a Dinosaur and a little boy. I'm just glad they're getting back to original films, although none of them seem like they will top Up or Wall-e, I'll see

I'm happy and satisfied as long as there is new IP. +10 for Pete Docter. I was reminded of that TV series as well.

I was very skeptic about Up's concept. After i saw it however, I trust Pixar in anything.

A movie where Dinosaurs never went extinct would be a great concept for a serious movie. If Dinosaurs never went extinct humans would never have evolved and its fun to speculate on the radically different path evolution would have taken. Douglas Dixon wrote a book dealing with the subject called The New Dinosaurs

The other seems like a remake of Inception

I think the concept for the second one is so abstract that it can go in a myriad of different ways. It's hard to predict how it's gonna turn out.

Its also worth noting that Pixar's dinosaur project is coming out less then a month before the Walking with Dinosaurs movie. I wonder if BBC/Fox will push it back in order to avoid saturating the market with Dinosaur movies

I'm excited for both of these . Especially the Dinosaur one! Definitely thought of the other Disney film 'Dinosaur' when I first heard of this. Really looking forward to it though, I think there aren't enough films about them to be honest. I also have a ridiculous amount of excitement for it already so it best be good .

Thank goodness that Pixar is making original movies again! NO MORE PREQUELS/SEQUELS!

You have no ideo how long I've been looking for the title of that series! Thanks alot Esteban! I just could have made a topic in that other forum we are on... Maybe a little bit off topic, but will these series ever get on blu-ray?

And yes, the new Pixar project did also remind me of this show!

Perhaps "fecile" is a contraction of facile and fecal?

I have been waiting so long for Pixar to do their own take on Dinosaurs. It's actually been the top of my list for a while.
If I drive for you, you give me a time and a place. I give you a five minute window, anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours no matter what. I don't sit in while you're running it down. I don't carry a gun... I drive.

The second one sounds very interesting, but I'll be looking forward to seeing both. I hope Pixar gets back to making great movies.

Both Up and Wall-E are overrated. They don't hold up as well or are as consistent as Ratatouille and the other big three; Nemo, Incredibles & TS3.

I'd like to pose a question here, do you like animated films to be shorter or longer? Pixar's flicks have running times of 81, 96, 92, 90, 104, 115, 116, 111, 97, 96, 103, 113. They are TS, ABL, TS2, MI, FN, TI, Cars, Rat, Wall-E, Up, TS3 & Cars 2.

Dreamworks have 84, 90, 93, 90, 87, 86, 92, 90, 91, 89, 94, 98, 93, 96, 91. They are Antz, Shrek, Shrek 2, Shark Tale, Madagascar, OTH, STT, BM, KFP, M:E2A, MVA, HTTYD, SFA, MegaMind & KFP2. Left out the 4 2D films and the 3D Aardman ones.

Sure a film being longer doesn't really mean it's better but it more often than not it means you get a longer time to develop your characters, flesh out your story, pace it well, spend more time in the world etc.

I think this whole "kids" medium really holds it back. Dreamworks' best film is their longest, which I don't think is a coincidence and of course the 4 best Pixar flicks IMO are all above 100 minutes as well.

You'd think a sequel to a movie like KFP should be epic, but it's exactly the same length and it felt like it.
Wishlist Over the Hedge (Dreamworks), Lemony Snicket's (Paramount), Order of the Phoenix Extended Edition (Warner Brothers), The Terminal (Dreamworks)

Sale Items Beauty and the Beast, Inception, Toy Story 3, District 9 & Karate Kid PM please :)
