Thumbs up Weird Al Yankovic music video collection - "Alpocalypse HD"

"Weird Al" Yankovic: Alpocalypse HD Blu-ray

I think somebody got Weird Al a Blu-ray player! He seems to be embracing the format lately.

It'll be in stores Nov. 8, but you can pre-order now!
This is basically a visual version of his latest album... with HD video and audio!

This comes out November 8th. It is in addition to his recently announced concert Blu-ray, "Weird Al" Yankovic Live! - The Alpocalypse Tour, due out October 4th. I've got both of them pre-ordered.

On a related note, Weird Al has some utterly retarded fans on his Facebook page. Here's some highlights from the announcement post.

All these music videos are already available on DVD in some manner. It's nice to see Weird Al embracing a proper format with this and a high definition concert. Now we just need UHF on Blu-ray.

Damn DVD fools. Always trying to spoil it for the rest of us. Fortunately, they lost this round it seems! Suck it, DVD!

The Deluxe Edition of Alpocalypse came with a dvd that had most of the Videos featured on the Blu-Ray release.. Guess some Weird Al fans don't know how to do some research...

I got excited reading the thread title, then, when I opened the thread.....

I thought this was a career-encompassing music video collection....not a collection of music videos from his new album.

As I no longer listen to much (if any) Top 40 music, Weird Al has made himself irrelevant to me. I can't "get" the parody if I don't know the original, you know?

Meh.
So, you don't wear a helmet when you ride a motorcycle? That's simply stupid, and wholly on your part. Wise up, dummy. Death is far too high a price for looking "cool".

That's really nice to hear. I've been posting on "Ask Al" for 4 years now asking about the possibility of his albums in high rez on Blu-ray. So needless to say I just put my money where my mouth (or hands) are and preordered this.

I do agree with the other poster that I no longer listen to top 40, so his parodies won't mean as much to me. However, it seems like he is including more original songs, so I think I'll be just fine.

Out of curiosity, those of you who have listened to AL's music, what would you say is your favorite song?

Mine would be "Frank's 2000" TV" followed closely by "Nature Trail to Hell."

Weird Al has always parodied the "Top 40."

You can't really ***** that he's not parodying obscure hipster crap when that has never been his schtick.

I'd say the reason why this isn't a collection of all his music videos is because the majority of them were mastered in standard definition. There are still tons of music videos released only in SD. The music industry has been woefully incompetent at embracing HD.

I didn't. I said that, as I no longer listen to Top 40, Al has become irrelevant to me.

Read the first six words of the thread title, and you will get a sense of my short-lived confusion, Grasshopper.

I don't get why all these people on facebook are so pissed about there being no DVD release of this, most of the Alpocalypse videos are included on a DVD with the Alpocalypse Deluxe Edition CD/DVD set, which costs like $13 usually, also the 2 videos from alpocalypse not included on the CD set are included on the Live Alpocalypse Tour DVD or Blu Ray. The only things on the Blu Ray that are really a big deal are the videos for "Do I Creep you Out", "Trapped in the Drive Thru" and "White and Nerdy" since those have never been released on any format, or at least not to the public (I have a promo DVD with the White & Nerdy video).

As for the rest of Als videos, none of them were filmed in HD and will probably never be released on Blu Ray any time soon, or probably not at all.

Al's film UHF however, is available for viewing in HD on netflix right now, so who knows if theres any plans for a Blu Ray of UHF.

When I talked with Weird Al a couple of weeks ago, I specifically asked him about this. He told me that he had little to do with the formats as that was something his label was handling. So, I would chalk this up to either A) Volcano being up on tech or B) testing the water to see if the demand is there for more.

I hope this sells fairly well. I'd love to have his catalog in high rez on BR-A.

By the way, the audio on this is uncompressed stereo PCM 24bit 48KHz.

Sounds really nice.

I first thought of this, but I've just watched The Saga Begins in the Star Wars Complete Saga Blu-Ray spoofs collection and the transfer looks beautiful. Compared to the Ultimate Video Collection DVD, it has far more detail. It really took advantage of the HD resolution. The audio sounded great too; don't know if it was 5.1 though, so I couldn't compare the mix yet (from what I recall, UVC's 5.1 audio was just a mediocre stereo upmix)

AWWW YEAAAAH!!! I really needed to know that!
