Default Dreamworks Dragons - November 15, 2011

Dreamworks Dragons Blu-ray

Dreamworks Dragons Blu-ray Review

Paramount has announced an all new release based on Dreamworks' animated hit How to Train Your Dragon. Dreamworks Dragons will feature two new adventures, Gift of the Night Fury (22 minutes) and Book of Dragons (18 minutes) as well as access to an online dragon training video game.

Gift of the Night Fury picks up where the 2010 film left up and follows Hiccup and Toothless as they discover an island with never-before-seen dragons. The second feature, Book of Dragons stars Hiccup, Toothless, Astrid and Gobber as they share insider trading secrets and add to the dragon mythology. In addition to the to Blu-ray features, the release will also provide access to the Dragons Online Video Game, an all new interactive experience created to coincide with Book of Dragons.

Dreamworks Dragons will be released in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack with Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio. Special features will include:

Gift of the Night Fury: The Animators' Corner (Blu-ray Exclusive)
Ultimate Book of Dragons (Blu-ray Exclusive)
Gobber's Training Secrets
Deleted Scenes
Spot the Difference
Learn How to Draw a Baby Gronckle
World of DreamWorks Animation
Previews
Hatch a Dragon

Dragon's Lair DVD-ROM

How to Host a Snoggletog Party
Your Book of Dragons
3D Land of the Dragon

A release date of November 15th and a SRP of $19.99 have been confirmed.

Not a huge fan of DTV sequels, but I'll check this out. $20 seems a might hefty for 40 minutes of material, though...

The first movie was so awesome it deserved a big sequel. Very disappointed to see it go direct to video and just 40 minutes of runtime. I'm surprised they chose to treat it this way, the first movie actually was quite successful at the box office. I'll get this when it comes down close to $10.

I think it may be 2014 now. I'm sure the release of the two "Dragons" shorts is specifically timed to keep the franchise in the forefront during the long gap between films.

i honestly couldn't remember if it was 2013 or 2014...i just knew it was a long ass way away!!!

and i'm sure u're right on the timing of this release.

i wouldn't be surprised if we don't get a 2nd one before the actual sequel is out.

Same here. I wish the sequel wasn't so far away, but anything in their universe will do for now.

Just as an FYI, as I was checking out Kristen Wiig's bio on imdb (Ruffnut's voice in HTTYD), I saw that How to Train Your Dragon 2 seems to be officially in Pre-Production and slatted for release in 2014.
Everybody from the first movie seems to be returning.

That's a long wait, but this DTV release will help to bridge the gap a little.
Most awaited:

The Hobbit - 12/14/12, 12/13/13 & 7/18/14
Oz The Great and Powerful - March 8th 2013
Elysium - August 9th 2013
Pacific Rim - Juy 12th 2013

I really liked How to Train your Dragon and have more times than not enjoyed Dreamworks shorts so I will be adding this to my collection. I can't wait until How to train your Dragon 2 is released. On another dreamworks note I wish Scared Shrekless and the Halloween short for Monsters VS Aliens were getting a blu release just DVD which will have to do.

They released a trailer for these movies. I think the movie quality looks pretty good.

EDIT: Found a better quality video.

I believe they are the same for Dragons but I will have to look it up. Yeah the Shrel shorts without the original cast would be annoying but luckily all the cast has returned to voice their characters again

Any chance they will release this in 3D at some time? I don't want to double dip.

Is this a Christmas-themed presentation? I could see ornaments, a Christmas tree and snow in the trailer, but no where does it actually say it's a Christmas special.

Speaking of Christmas, if Dreamworks can release this, WHERE IS Shrek The Halls on blu-ray???!
