Default ValueElectronics HDTV Shoot-out Evaluation Event

On September 17-18, 2011 we will host our 7th annual HDTV shoot-out. This year’s flagship competitive offering of flat panel displays from every major manufacturer will be on display and we will reward one manufacturer the honor of “King of HDTV” based on comparison and evaluation from TV experts and audience members.

Kevin Miller is our master calibrator and keynote speaker. Kevin is an ISF charter member/instructor, professional reviewer, and industry consultant. Professional calibrators D-Nice and Ed Johnson will assist Kevin with the calibrations and will have presentation contributions. Other surprise speakers that are industry leaders and display development engineers will also participate.

All Blu-ray.com members are invited to attend in person (register here) or to watch the live HD webcast on our Livestream premium channel.

The event will have a live audience carefully selected from the motion picture and TV Broadcast industries as well as serious a/v enthusiasts and the press. The event will also be webcast live and available on our YouTube page.

Our shoot-out is the only industry wide evaluation that includes every major premium manufacturer's HDTV. We are opening up the attendance to the press, professional TV Broadcasters and the motion picture industry executives and I would love to have members of Blu-ray.com attend in person or watch the live webcast and post in the moderated live chat section.

We look forward to your participation. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.

Best regards,

-Robert

awesome, looking forward to the event/results.

Where is the location of this event? (would love to come, but having a two year old makes travel very difficult)

Good luck with your shoot out!

I just spoke with Kevin Miller, our keynote speaker and leader of our professional calibrating team, who unfortunately is in the hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Kevin had an emergency appendectomy operation last week and was readmitted today with complications.

Kevin is essential to the shoot-out event, so we are rescheduling the event to accommodate the recovery time. Fortunately, this gives LG the opportunity to have their Nano 55LW9800 and Panasonic to have the 65VX300 added to the shoot-out evaluation.

The shoot-out event is now rescheduled for Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 6 PM and Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 1 PM.

Very sorry for any inconvenience and we hope it’s possible to adjust your schedules to accommodate for this change of date for the event. If you have not signed up to attend the shoot-out yet you can do so on our home page.

We very much look forward to having your participation on 10/8 and 10/9.

-Robert

I just hope the Yankees don't have a playoff game on 10/8 so I can go (10/9 is out of the question for me though). Hope for Kevin Miller to have a speedy recovery.

I'd love to go to the shoot out! I've been knee deep in the best plasma's (and a Sony XBR or two) since 2005-2006. I hope Kevin is better soon.
Pioneer 9G Kuro's 5020 with Elite board swap, KRP500m, Elite 111, Elite 151. Onkyo 706, Polk TSi 5.1 all the way around & 10" sub. Pioneer BD player & Panasonic BD player along with three PS3's, all original 60gig units. 2x Harmony 1100 & 1 Harmony 1000 touch screen remotes. About 1,000 Blu-rays...

Another update....... We're adding another highly anticipated high-end mid-year introduction TV, Toshiba 65UL610U to our shoot-out wall.

This year's flat panel HDTV shoot-out event will be the mother of all TV evaluations!

Any news on Kevin? He's been calibrating my displays for the past 10-12 years and is a great guy. I hope he's OK!
Get well soon Kevin!

So, if you take the place rankings for each category, add them up and apply golf scoring, the overall winner should be the VT30.

1)Panasonic VT30 [2+2+3+1] = 8
2) Sharp Elite [1+1+6+2] = 10
3) Samsung D8000 [3+3+1+4] = 11

Or, assign a 5 for first place, 3 for second and 1 for third in each category (which is probably similar to how the overall rankings were calculated) and you get:

1) Sharp Elite [5+5+0+3] = 13
2) Panasonic VT30 [3+3+1+5] = 12
3) Samsung D8000 [1+1+5+0] = 7

However you look at it, you'll not go wrong with any of these fine displays, though your wallet will be a lot lighter after buying the Elite!

There's where should also come in play the Price/Quality factor , in this case the Panny still is the winner

True, but the place assignments were mine based on the scores which are posted in the sheets. They just bolded who had the highest score in each category.

Ed the 3rd calibrator still ranks the plasmas best due to off axis issues which although have been definitely improved on the Sharp, are still there. He says the plasmas still had a more natural look to him. You can see his comments in the cNet comments section towards the bottom.

Only $3,249 for the 65" VT-30 on Amazon, wish I lived in the US, lol.
