Default Spielberg confirms E.T. for Blu...plus Raiders

At a special screening tonight of Raiders in L.A., Steven Spielberg said E.T. is coming to Blu. And he said the print of Raiders had been remastered for an eventual Blu release. He is willing to release it in six months but he said it is up to George Lucas and they are trying to decide to do it alone or the first 3 together.

Also...he asked if we would be ok with just the 1982 original version of E.T. and not combined with the altered version he did later. (He mentioned how when they released the altered version on DVD how he insisted they include the other and price it the way they would one DVD.) We applauded the decision just the original on Blu and he said, "Okay, then."

The original 1982 version of E.T., complete with guns in the hands of the government men? I'll believe it when I see it. But I'll certainly applaud the release if it happens! I'll actually buy it, too!

Sucks that I couldn't go. I was a day late for RSVPing, and I didn't even have to be. It was just me being slow...

Would it be okay? Why no, Mr. Spielberg, we don't want the original.

Sometimes we hear of people who are “very” honest, “mostly” honest, or even “a little” honest.
Should we even use modifiers with the word honest? I don’t believe so. There are no degrees of honesty. Either we are honest or we aren't.

Think they had extra tickets they were giving away at the door. I had two and gave back one, so a guy who just took a chance on showing up got given my extra by them.

It was a fun event. They screened Raiders first and then began to interview Spielberg. He wasn't far into the interview, describing the swordsman scene about how Harrison Ford wasn't feeling well and said Ford decided to save doing the three page scene by just shooting him. Next we know, we heard a voice saying, "That's not the way it happened." And Harrison Ford came from the side of the theater and joined them for the rest of the interview (about half an hour).

Whoa, that's freaking huge. I didn't think they would even consider individual releases.

I would love that.

I don't believe Spielberg meant individual releases...rather, either Raiders alone, or all three together as a set, is the decision.

why do you say that, he gave us both versions on the dvd set, and hes gone on record saying the original version is his prefered version and the one he recomends people watch.

Finally!!!

E.T. was filmed very close to where I live, so it's always exciting to see all the familiar streets/houses/etc. when watching the film. This will definitely be a day 1 buy.

Fair enough, 'an individual release' would have probably been more accurate.

Which would be just fine by me. Provided it doesn't delay or otherwise get in the way of releasing the rest. I have absolutely no interest in Temple or Crusade but I know a lot of people do.

In an ideal world they'd each get released when they were ready (and I wouldn't have to pay for the two I don't want)

Yeah, it seemed like he started out following Lucas on the whole "let's revise our old films" kick, and later decided it was a bad idea. In fact, the idea that he won't even put the "enhanced version" on the Blu-Ray is very telling about how he feels now about film revisionism.

As for Raiders, I don't think we need to worry about alterations to any of the three movies. I don't know who has the authority in this case, but if the transfers are already done, I'd think we would have gotten leaked info about some kind of "Special Edition" changes that were done to them if there had been any. In fact, I'll bet you that "Raiders" has the original version of the "cliff sequence" which was apparently altered with cgi for HDTV broadcasts.

Fully CG E.T. throughout the whole film. I'm excited!
"Does the Blu-ray version of '.......' look better than it's DVD version?"

I'm so sick of this question. 99% of Blu-rays look better than their DVD counterpart. Period.
