Singin' in the Rain Blu-ray Review

No release yet. UPDATE: July 17, 2012

... but it's time this terrific film gets a thread.

What we know so far:

When: 2012 to coincide with its 60th anniversary (suits love round numbers).

What:
Safe to say it may be a UCE? I'd prefer a digibook but I really want to see this film in hi-def.

The transfer: from what i've read online it's a from-scratch restoration. I'm expecting a spectacular release.

Release date: My guess is Spring 2012

If they Blu-Ray it, I'll...think about it. I remember liking the movie, and it should look swell in high-def.

yeah it's been an epic wait.
of course, it's a bd--that's the point.
can't get here soon enough, though it's great they went back and re-did the release to make it 1080p.
nice dedication from Warner.
my question is what is the next big musical after Singin' and the Camelot release?
Will they consider "The Band Wagon", The Great Ziegfield or Brigadoon?
what about Carmen Jones, Yankee Doodle Dandy or some Astaire/Rogers titles?
Warner has the rights to SO many of the most classic musicals.
inquiring minds need to know.

My Fair Lady is on the way later this year,

I would expect something like Oklahoma or Showboat to make it's way unto Blu-ray very soon. Type of grandiose musical seem to be made for the format. I would love to have Easter Parade on Blu-ray.

As for Singing In The Rain, it should look very good on Blu-ray. It's a very colorful movie and with a restoration done on it, should really make the PQ look stunning. I wonder what they will do for the sound, some of the musical era most favorite songs are in this movie.

that's Paramount though.
(the rights reverted back a few years ago)
What will be the next big Warner musical after Camelot and this one?
I haven't heard any rumors or hints of the next one in the pipeline for a bd release.

Was "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" a WB movie? I'd gladly get that one on BD if they release it.

That was a MGM back in the days, not sure who would have it now?

I thought WB put the DVD out, but even if they did, the distribution rights could have changed after all these years.

As far as I know Turner owns it, and Warner distributes it.

I would love to see Singing in the Rain makes it's way to Blu-ray it looked fantastic on DVD

This one will definitely be a day one pick up for me. Might even pre-order it. One of my favorite musicals of all time, should be interesting to see what they do with the soundtrack on some of these older films..

Ditto!!
I adore this movie.
"If we're about to die anyways, I'd rather die fighting! Come for me Gmork, I am Atreyu!"

"And use some of that cologne Gertrude got you for Christmas."
"Oh do I have to Mother, it smells like ether?"

"With pleasure."

I've never owned this movie in any format. I would love to add it to my collection.

Day 1!

I expect it to be spectacular. Warner Bros. has this UltraResolution process that perfectly lines ups the three strips of the original Technicolor. It will look better than opening night in 1952. Classic film!
