Street Fighter has a privileged spot on the So Bad It's Good list. Van Damme's inspirational speech to his troops stands as a particularly poignant scene.

This movie got so many things wrong from the videogame that that in itself is funny to me.

There is no such movie.
Dr. Ian Malcolm: Anybody hear that? It's a, um... It's an impact tremor, that's what it is... I'm fairly alarmed here.

The movie always gave me a good laugh whenever it was on. I mean, they knew how tongue in cheek it was going to be and just went with it.

Erm, no, that would have to be The Legend of Chun Li.

Also, obligatory...

My stance on Anime...I just can't understand any of it, everyone is either a 10 year old girl or a monster.

This movie is one my childhood's favorite. I love it even it is not what I was expecting.
Yeah, Guile's speech is Oscar worthy.
Adopted Blu-ray long before its development and launch.

"Why do they hate me? All I want to do is create the perfect genetic soldier..."

Like Flash Gordon, Sam Raimi and the 60's Batman, it's hard to do intentional tongue-in-cheek and get it right--You have to respect your material, or fall into the temptation of goofy-kitsch.
Steven deSouza talks on the commentary about always playing the arcade game with his kid, and only someone who had played the game could turn "So bad it's good(tm)" into "So good, it's fun"--Like the Marvel movies, we needed a True Geek to understand it.

And Raul Julia playing M. Bison as "Gomez Addams conquers the world", doesn't hurt either--Okay, my turn at obligatory:
(Have to admit, that lazy "Chun Li" director would never have had the characters quote their actual lines from the game. )

I love both live action flicks. The Raul Julia one being the most entertaining since the actors were in on the joke and played it as such. :rick2: The Kreuk one only needs to remove the supernatural BS to be a great cheesefest from the late 70's/early 80's.

Dude I know u are a huge Van Damme fan but be real! I think Kristen's version gets a raw deal as it isnt nearly as bad as people make it out to be. However that Van Damme version is just plain corny and cheesy and to me unwatchable. Also just the fact u get to look at Moon Bloodgood and Kristen all movie long makes it worth while. Got Em!!

This film is both hokey and hilarious, which is why I like it so much. Unlike the popular trend of "bad guys who think they're good", Raul Julia plays Bison as evil and fully aware of it, relishing in his twisted vision of a future where everyone worships him. To be honest, I first saw this film because I was a fan of the video games, rather than Van Damme having anything to do with it (I'm still not a huge admirer of his work). I was 14 when it came out, so I suppose I matched the target audience. Looking back, I found myself thinking, among many things, "Cammy was really hot in those days!" (not a fan of Kylie's music, either). I loved the humor though, and I still laugh at a lot of the film.

One interesting note: the Allied Nations radio announcer who always tells Bison jokes is the real Adrian Cronauer, whose military experience served as the intentionally-warped basis for "Good Morning, Vietnam".

I actually liked the majority of "Legend of Chun-Li", but Bison's backstory ruined the whole thing for me (I haven't seen it since its theatrical run).

The supernatural BS was bad. But I love that an orphan baby raised in a Thai orphanage develops an Irish accent for no other reason than he has Irish heredity.

I do love JCVD but Chris Klein alone makes the new Street Fighter impossible to watch.. the acting is way more of a cheese fest then JC's version.. Plus JCVD as Guile is the man! I think i may be Guile for Halloween now!
