Awww man.....PIP?! Now that is what I'm talking about....too bad I have another year before I can "re-up" and perhaps get a new one. I do have the protection plan, so if anything happens to my current HR24-500, I can always give them a call. Last time I called them when my HR20-700 was acting up, I asked for a credit to allow me to "lease" the current HR24-500 I have. They gave me a $300 credit, but then I was signed up for a new 2 year agreement as well. But this way, I was able to "buy" what DVR I wanted (the HR24-500), instead of them trying to send me a refurbished HR20-700.

However, maybe after a year goes by, all of the bugs will be worked out........

UPDATE: First post has been updated.

The PiP has 5 options -- top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right, and side by side.

It will also be compatible with the new RVU compatible TV's (I think Samsung is the only one to announce one -- they are a founding member) so you will not need setup boxes on up to 3 additional TV's.

Here is a great link for a PDF overview.

Looks nice. I've had the HR21 and currently have the HR22. Neither ine is what I would consider to be a nice piece of equipment, as both models have and continue to give me trouble. Things like major delay when you press a button on the remote, super-long pauses when changing channels, and all kinds of stuff like that. Hopefully this new toy will have addressed all the issues that have plagued those models. If it does, count me in. I'm still waiting for locals in HD, so I also hope that this is compatible with my OTA (either that or DirecTV needs to just sack-up and get that going).

The delayed button push/non responsive buttons were manageable until the added the damn scorguide. The channels with scoreguide are the WORST.

Q. How many tuners does the HR34 have?
A. The HR34 has 5 tuners total.

Q. How many recordings can be made simultaneously on the HR34?
A. The total simultaneous independent recordings possible are 5 if a previously-recorded program is being watched or if the channel being watched is also being recorded.
Very nice feature there. On "occasion" there's More than 3 things on at the same time & on my HR-22 now, it only can record TWO shows simultaneously (including the channel you're watching). I wonder how I can get my area DirecTV to change my box out. Perhaps a simple call will work to see if I'm eligible, which I believe I am as I've had this one for at Least 2 yrs or more. Hope it doesn't cost MORE per month tho'.

*** Just got off the phone with them a few mins ago (9pm). The only REAL way to get this is to (for NOW), be in one of FIVE I think, areas that have it. One was Pittsburgh, other was in Utah somewhere, as well as Florida, & 2 other locations
[Show spoiler](I wasn't writing this all down when she was telling me the exact cities/areas)
. Also, for Any upgrade she said, you have to have a legitimate problem with your Current one, AND, they only can send what's Available in YOUR AREA warehouse. So if my unit is having "Glitch A" & 2 other minor/major problems, I place a trouble call, & they contact a tech to come out & see about replacing my HR22 with whatever they have CURRENTLY "In Stock" (at the closest Warehouse).

It seems this new one is TOO NEW
[Show spoiler](hence, just having it now in only FIVE locations)
. My HR22 updates automatically & isn't giving me any Massive problems, so IF/WHEN it does down the road, I now know the HR34-700 is Out There ***

I wonder if the whole Fox channel thing will be taken care of before the contract expires....that would really stink if we lost any channels, especially HD channels.

I will keep this new DVR on my radar come next year.....when I will complain about it giving me issues and then maybe I can swing them to do a repeat of what they did when I got my HR24-500 last year, which was credit my acct and let me get the new DVR myself and return my "old" DVR.

Just call and go to the stop service menu you'll get someone begging you to stay (and if they don't just hang up lol) Say something like FIOS has an upgraded box "Moto QIP7232" and that you can't stand your current box. They'll probably ship you one right out when we left Dtv they offered us over 200 a month in savings because we were spending so much.

I contacted DTV about "testing" one of the HR34 boxes in the Wash, DC area, but they said that it was limited to only new customers in five test markets (I did not ask where they were).

I'm hoping that it has all bugs worked out and available within the next year or so. That would be when I am serious about another box.

The receiver looks great but right now I'm more concerned about losing Fox channels.

They'd (Fox AND DirecTV) be stupid to not resolve this. The NFL is HUGE for everyone, they can't afford to lose customers.

The one in Utah was a city we've heard, I just didn't recall which one she said. There was on in California as well, somewhere. But the Florida wasn't a Major city, though I believe I'd heard the name before (not like Orlando or Miami, Daytona Beach, though). Pittsburgh is somewhat a major city. I'm sure they have their reasons (? )
