Default No E.D.?

Last year I was torn between buying an HSU VTF-1 and an Elemental Designs A2-300. In the end I went with the E.D. but, I have always wondered what the HSU sounds like and if I should have bought that instead. I'm interested in your opinion as I see that you didn't include any elemental designs subs on your list. Thanks for the helpful guide, I'll be sure to use this as a reference if I decide to upgrade.

ED and Hsu make excellent subwoofers and I am plan to include ED and many more as soon as I have a little time. It is best not to jump into any conclusions. I started this list last night and didn't have time to complete it. That is why I put the a sentence at the beginning of post #1 that the list will be competed soon. I need to eat and sleep every once in a while.

Premier Acoustics was not forgotten. It is included in the below $300 link that is listed at the beginning of this thread. The other ones were not initially included in that thread and that is why I listed them here. I need to get rid of them.

Originally, a few subwoofers under $300 were not included in that list. I added them to this thread so that JMan becomes informed and includes them in his thread. He has done that now and that is the reason I deleted them. The only one still there is the company from Australia.

That is partly JBL's fault. The regular JBL subwoofers are listed. However, they have made it so difficult to get information about JBL Synthesis subwoofers and their prices that I could not categorize them. I just added the general JBL Synthesis website to the over $1,000 subwoofers. Your subwoofer is not even listed on their website.

The HTPS-400 link is.

http://www.jblsynthesis.com/Products/Details/113

It looks like the only Performance Series they have left is the in-wall Synthesis Four and they mention that the "HTPS-400 can be replaced by the 14-inch PS1400" but it doesn't show it.

Great thread. Is there any such thing as musical versus HT subs or it more about size ? I'm thinking smaller("10) sealed would be more musical as opposed to "18 ported. I have 3 mediocre subs which are not musical at all and would like to get 2 subs for music only(5.1).

Hsu and SVS build ported subwoofers that are equally good for both music and HT. Also, the servo subwoofers from Rythmik are pretty good. ACI and REL are also known to make very good and musical subwoofers.
