Just read a thread on DVD Talk that says WB will be going the flipper disc route on all new releases. "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas" appears to be the first one. The review doesn't mention it here, but if you look at the specs for the standard BD/DVD/DC version, it lists 1 disc.
The only saving grace for flipper haters is WB usually provides a BD only release as they are doing with this film. But those usually are skimpy on extras. So you can look forward to the Dark Knight Rises flipper disc combo pack later this year.
Welcome to blu-ray.com, where slipcovers are more important than Blu-rays.

Just to get the question out of the way, a flipper is a two-sided disc right?

What a great decision. I hope that other studios do the same thing.

I'd hardly call it excessive.

I thought flippers died with HD-DVD. Never liked them and they sure do look cheap too with nothing pretty stamped on one side. I purchased Letters to Julliet two weeks ago and was disappointed when I opened the case only to find a flipper.

Thanks.
The only thing that really worries me about this is not realizing until halfway through a movie that I've been watching the DVD side. Otherwise, it means little to me, though I don't have tons of Warner Brothers movies nor do I plan on getting very many. Most Anticipated Titles 1. May 2. The Toxic Avenger 3. WB did exactly the same thing with the DVD version of "South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut", and as far as I know, that was the only one that they did. It was stopped soon after due to not being consumer friendly.
It was basically a 2 sided DVD, with a full-screen version of the movie on one side, and a wide-screen version on the other. The way I understand this new version, is that it is basically the same sort of idea, but with DVD format on one side, and blu-ray format on the other. It would certainly save on the amount of discs used in a standard pack. But here's an idea WB: instead of going through the hassle of including 2 formats onto one disc, you could, say, not do that! Just leave it as a simple 1-sided blu-ray disc!!!

cheap douches
... why not just eliminate the stupid dvd that NOBODY seems to care about ... and if you decide to sell these off to second hand shops they rarely buy them because they think it's a bootleg

I just got one thing to say to myself, "Good job on waiting so long to convert to blu-rays dumbass.
"Oh well. Good thing I don't watch special features. Because now I can just buy single disc movie only blu-rays from warner brothers. What about other studios? They will still offer regular discs for each format. Right? |
