This is the absolute worst pq I've ever seen a blu-ray have.

I've seen VHS with better pq than this crap. There has got to be some sort of story behind this piece of garbage of a release.

This is why you do research before you just buy a movie.

I bought it for $3 at a local store. $3 is fine for any film..but still.

So what the hell happened here?.

The whole thing was shot on some kind of hand held camera to give it a documentary look/feel like the Blair Witch project, I believe.

According to the review, the majority of the movie was shot on a DV camcorder…..probably the same one I have sitting in the closet @ home.

It was filmed with a consumer camcorder. That's why it looks like crap. The end scene should look a lot better, as that was done with 35mm.

Like Darth Anakin said... research

Aside from the hillside ending, all of the film was shot on standard definition mini DV. On top of that, I'm fairly certain it had to be deinterlaced and THEN converted to 24fps from the originally shot 25fps. So you're looking at what was most likely a resolution of 720x288 when all was said and done. Even the DVD looks a bit soft.

The only scene that will ever look good is the ending, as it was shot on 35mm. So overall, yes, the bulk of the film may look like crap... but the blu-ray captures EXACTLY how it looked in theaters. Trust me, I saw it in theaters once in 2003 then again in 2009.

Simple. It was a low budget tour de force that shot on a PAL DV camera adapted to use 35mm film lenses. Meaning it was, and always will be locked in at 720x576 resolution (minus the black for aspect ratio) as it's 100% size.

I'll buy it off you for 5 with shipping, that's your money back.

You should read how they pulled some of the stuff off, it's very impressive given they had few permits to close streets and such.

Just looked at those screencaps. Yikes!

Thank God I've only seen the sequel, which I've enjoyed.

What if they're the same price or the blu is cheaper than the DVD?

Not sold on the "camera" cop out. I've got the Blair witch, Diary of the dead, and other camera films which all look 100x better than this crap.

i would go for it if it's cheaper... i don't like having big dvd cases in my collection now so if a transfer doesn't offer much of an upgrade then i just wait for the price to fall to the same or less than the dvd and then i buy it

I'd rather date a midget in a wheelchair than have to "show off" this High Def to anyone.

Lossless audio -- the sound rocks! Plus the entire final sequence was shot on 35mm and looks gorgeous on blu.
