Can someone please explain to me what the difference between the 231 minute Ten Commandments Blu-ray release and the 220 minute Ten Commandment releases before it? I tried a Google search but came up empty handed as to what the difference between the two runtimes were. Thanks for the help!

This is only a guess... perhaps someone else knows for sure.
The overture, intermission music and exit music might add the extra eleven minutes. (?) I have the blu-ray but have yet to view it...... So many movies, so little time.

Why is The Ten Commandments, 231 minutes on 2 discs and Gone With the Wind, 238 minutes on one disc? This is the first time I have ever seen a blu-ray movie one 2 discs.

Gone with the Wind has an aspect ratio of 1.37:1, so it compresses better than The Ten Commandments, which has an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and uses the entire screen area as opposed to around 77% that GwtW uses. It still seems like a bit of a stretch, though, and I'm honestly surprised there are no compression artifacts in GwtW.

So how much of the 50 GB dual layer blu-ray disc does Gone with the Wind and The Ten Commandments disc #1 use for the movie itself, anyone know?

According to DVDBeaver, Ten Commandments uses 42.1GB on disc 1 and 29.5GB on disc 2, both running at 35Mbps. GWTW on the otherhand uses 44.4GB for the full film on one disc, but runs it at a comparatively paltry 18Mbps.

![]() Are you referring to my mock condemnation of the previous poster who beat my reply by seconds? If so, it had nothing to do with the quality of the discs, just the timeliness of his post. Both films look excellent.

So are their any other cinematic films on blu-ray disc that take up more blu-ray disc space than The Ten Commandments? Then I have to wonder if blu-ray disc is capable if handling resolution higher than 1080p/24?

BTW I popped in The Ten Commandments last night but I was too tired to watch much but what I did see looked spectacular! I will start from the beginning again tonight.
