Default Courageous Blu-ray (Release Date: 1/17/2012) Another Christian title from Sherwood

Courageous Blu-ray

Courageous Blu-ray Review

On January 17th 2012 Sony Pictures will be releasing the movie Courageous on the Blu-ray format. Courageous is Sherwood Pictures latest Christian drama that had a budget of 2 million dollars with box office sells of over 33 million dollars. Movie is rated PG-13.

Quote

Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, they are confident and focused, standing up to the worst the streets can offer. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge they're ill prepared to tackle: fatherhood. When tragedy strikes home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Sherwood Pictures, creators of Fireproof, returns with this heartfelt, action-packed story. Protecting the streets is second nature to these law enforcement officers. Raising their children in a God-honoring way? That takes courage.”

This Blu-ray movie is available for pre-order from both Amazon and DVD Empire.

Also available from Sony Pictures on Blu-ray is Sherwood Pictures Fireproof and Facing the Giants Blu-ray.

Although like Fireproof, it has that for lack of a better phrase, "cheese factor" (overdramatic at times), I still thought it was a great movie. I recommend all men see it (especially fathers). I'm buying 2 copies on release day, 1 for my father and 1 for me. It is definitely a tear-jerker. I can't remember the last time I fought back so many tears watching a movie.

Incidentally, the Target ad indicates they have an exclusive bonus disc with this.

Anyone else (other than me) buying this today? Pretty sad that Bucky Larson thread gets 5 pages worth of talk, but this doesn't even get 5 replies! Wow!

By the way, does anyone happen to know the best place to buy this in stores? Target is $22.99 (cheaper than Best Buy's $24.99), but I'm not sure about Walmart. I see Walmart has an exclusive online $19.99 blu ray + DVD combo, but I have a feeling it's not in stores.

Mine is "Out for Delivery!"

Awesome movie! They did a great job on this. It is great to see Sherwood evolve from where they were several years ago quality wise. I loved Flywheel, but wish they had filmed it on something that would have made it worthwhile for Blu-ray transfer.

Wal-mart does have it in the store and the Blu ray price is $24 (here in Cleveland, OH anyway), looks like target is going to be the deal breaker.
I did see this in theaters and I thought it was great. As someone mentioned earlier, Sherwood does have a way with over dramatizing but then again, when Bruce Willis launches a car into a flying helicopter I guess we have to take entertainment at its "extreme" moments. What I really enjoy about Sherwood is it was pretty much 2 brothers, Stephen and Alex Kendrick, that started out with "Flywheel" their first film which was only intended for their own church to see. After it had gained exposure after showing it at a local theater in Albany, GA., Sony caught wind of these guys and the rest is history. I think Sony invested something like $500,000 into Fireproof and it made over 33 million dollars. Very interesting for a genre Hollywood keeps trying to say has no audience!

Most people are making fun of Bucky Larson, that's why it has 5 pages. I don't think that anyone would post a reply in this thread to make fun of the Christian film(s). They're not for me, but I may pick up Courageous for a friend of mine. I don't know if she likes the genre or not so I'll have to ask.

Does Walmart's new price match policy match their own website? If so, it's $19.96 online for combo.

This as well as Fireproof absolutely had times of "overdramatizing/cheesing" things. The acting in Fireproof was laughable at times, but I still enjoyed it. I liked Courageous a lot more though. Better plot, better acting, motivating/inspiring, and a tear-jerker.

Got mine today. And while the budget may not be BLOCKBUSTER quaity, it's still a great story with a powerful message. I'm very proud to buy and support these films so we can have more like 'em in the future.

Our church ordered a special license and was showing it all weekend long before this dvd/bluray release, and it touched alot of people.

Thanks for the reminder. This one wasn't even on my radar until I saw it advertised on TV a week or so ago, but I forgot to add it to my wishlist.
