I've manually searched through about six or seven Walmarts in Southern Ontario and have seen pretty much every other title, except for AFRICAN QUEEN. |

The reality is that a great film like Platoon is just not a hot item with today's masses, so it ought to be available. Try looking in the cardboard standups, Different Walmarts have different stock and also they refresh the stock. Some put these cheapies up near the express checkouts for impulse purchase. Also check the regular shelves, sometimes there's cheap seasonal titles hiding out back there. Even though the chances are low, ask someone in the area for help. Sometimes you luck out and they happen to recall where a certain movies was miscategorized into the kids movies or concerts or whatever. Sometimes it's sitting in their 'to be reshelved' basket. |

It was the single disc version that I found at the Walmart in Square One in Mississauga....I basically scoured all the cardboard shelves and lucked out with probably the last copy of it at that location...that sucker was really buried too.

There are still copies to be found at the Walmart at Markham & Steeles, and Brockville Walmart. Also stopped by Pickering today, but missed DVDNGG. Made it as far as Best Buy, and then got hungry so found a really good Fish and Chips place near Westney Road. So stuffed from lunch, I didn't eat dinner! Picked up HALL PASS for $9.99 at Future Shop Brockville. The girl at CS was soooo slow. The BDs were stickered with $35.99 or something ridiculous like that and I opened my stupid mouth and asked her if they were still on for $9.99. She said no and that it was only the DVD. She didn't scan it, but walked to the other side of the store to show me the DVD priced at $9.99. I asked her why didn't she just scan it to check the price. She did and her jaw dropped. "I can't believe it is $9.99!" Yah. Took about 10 minutes. I just paid and left. Tomorrow, hopefully Ottawa... Last edited by GreatGreg; 01-03-2012 at 05:17 AM. |

Yes, Wal-mart had the Anniversary sale, yet there's no denying that the price has gone up on the Seiki. Also, I can't say I'm a fan of refurbs from XS Cargo, I, and several others, have had a few bad experiences with them. |

But yeah, XS Cargo for anything like this is a gamble. My first Seiki wouldn't play other region stuff, and there have been plenty of stories of defective units. |

I refuse to buy refurbs from any place, including Future Shop and directly from the vendors themselves, as you can't guarantee anything. |

So for what it's worth, I went with my Dad to pick up a second Seiki at XS Cargo.
The boxes were all pre-opened and re-sealed, but while it is true there are no refunds, there is a 30 day exchange policy for the same item. The day we went there were about 10 in stock, so after explaining the circumstances to him, my Dad would rather take the risk on a $44 refurb than on a $78 new model. Took it home, and set it up for him right away. The batteries were missing, but other than that, it played and worked fine. Oddly enough, he had a bunch of spare Asian batteries. A lot of people had remote control issues, but they were really battery issues. I imagine a lot of people didn't know this and just returned their unit to Walmart or whatever. With all of the extra units, I'm sure most of them are fine, although I still prefer to go with a new unit myself. So short story is that the refurb unit we got was fine. If it wasn't you could still go back to XS and exchange it within 30 days, so don't buy the last model in the store. In contrast, I bought two Seikis from Walmart as they have been on sale at $58 twice. The second time, I actually got a defective unit as it would not turn on no matter what I tried. I somehow got a returned unit sold to me as new from Walmart. I know this because the inside items were not wrapped in plastic and the batteries were already in the remote. I did do an exchange and got a new working unit from Walmart. |

Still a pretty good selection at RCSS and Walmart. Picked up Oceans Eleven, Oceans Thirteen, Hulk, and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen 2-disc (with slipcover).

It's Jan 15 and there's still plenty of good deals at RCSS. Picked up The Raven for $14. Also saw Chernobyl Diaries for $14 as well as other titles like Snow White and the Huntsman. I don't think there was as good selection as this during Boxing Week.
