Default The Official RARO VIDEO Thread

I have followed Raro Video for years, long before they came to the U.S. I am so happy to see them finally here and releasing important classic and cult films, many of which have never before been available here. I thought it would be great to have one thread where we can follow their releases.

Raro's Official Site:
http://rarovideousa.com/

Quote:
RaroVideo U.S is a publishing project devoted to producing high-quality DVD, BLU-RAY and VOD releases for American audiences. The partnership behind the company formed in 2010 when Stefano and Gianluca Curti, owners of RaroVideo Italy, teamed with Nico Bruinsma, owner of U.S. DVD label Cult Epics. Stefano and Gianluca Curti started RaroVideo Italy in 1999. Hailed by cinephiles for expertly restoring rare films by influential filmmakers from a wide range of genres, the company has earned an outstanding international reputation for the quality of its high-definition transfers. Its releases are also known for their original uncut versions and exclusive supplemental content as well as the critical analysis and superb booklets that accompany each film.

Among the directors featured in the RaroVideo catalog are: Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luchino Visconti, Roberto Rosselllini, David Lynch, Derek Jarman, Shinya Tsukamoto, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Jean-Luc Godard, Werner Herzog, Lars von Trier, Lucio Fiulci, Mario Bava, Francesco Barilli, Tinto Brass, Jean Cocteau, Pedro Almodovar and Martin Scorsese to name just a few. RaroVideo was also the first company in the world to release on DVD Andy Warhol’s: The Chelsea Girls, My Hustler, The Nude Restaurant and Lonesome Cowboys.

I really would like to see a release of Di Leo's "Shoot First, Die Later" from RARO.

And thx for the thread B ... love raro too ... have a bunch of their italian DVDs. Guess we'll have to see what the future brings us.

You are welcome I am also hoping that some of their early Italian releases will come to the U.S., and especially the ones that were not English-friendly.

Got this back from Raro today:

"We actually do own the rights to Di Leo's Shoot First, Die Later. You can expect it in a second round Fernando Di Leo box set, which we're shooting to release this coming fall. As always we'll post updates about future releases on Facebook and our Website (http://www.rarovideousa.com/). Thanks again for writing!"

Good info, Zeti

You might want to consider getting rid of the Italian releases because the U.S. releases have been significantly better. The Secret of Dorian Gray is leaps and bounds ahead of the Italian disc.

I just saw a RaroVideo post on Facebook advertising a 'John Cassevetes' night at a local cinema in Rome soon. I wonder, will they be releasing any of his films in the future?
