Sony introduces glasses-free 3D TV at CES
Posted on January 10, 2012 - 11:30 by Mike Luttrell Despite being one of the biggest players in glasses-required 3D TVs, Sony is stepping outside the box. The company has just introduced a new 46-inch TV that provides 3D visuals without the need for glasses. It uses a technology called autostereoscopic 3D, which presents the illusion of depth by incorporating thousands of tiny mirrors within the display itself. The technology is able to trick your eyes into thinking that the display is more like a window than a flat-screen TV. Full article at: http://www.tgdaily.com/consumer-elec...e-3d-tv-at-ces |

This is great news! It means that there will be more people joining the 3D flock, so more content will become available as the demand rises.
This should quiet down the "Glasses Haters" a bit, but they will probably start complaining about the price though as I imagine that this is not an inexpensive technology to incorporate into production. I can't wait to see one with my own eyes and see how well it performs. Hopefully it will do well. But, I am still not planning on replacing my new Panasonic 3D plasma for one of these. Hopefully there will be something in it that will allow it to incorporate the Pop-Out effects and not just add depth, otherwise people will just be getting half of the full 3D experience. We'll just have to wait and see. |
