Default Hop - Was this a 3D release?

Hop - Was this a 3D release?

I did not see this when it was in theaters but I thought I had seen previews that said was going to be in 3D but am not able to find anything to confirm this yet. And only a 2D release has been announced so if anyone saw it in 3D please let me know.

Just did a google search and this video on YouTube says "Hop 3D"...

but I think that just the trailer is in 3D. When you search "Hop movie poster" not a single poster says 3D on it anywhere???

This "official trailer" being in 3D may be why many of us thought the movie was???

Yah, this is what I was coming across as well, I rember seeing it advertised in 3D but the only thing online I came across was that youtube video but when you wach the video it does not say anything about 3D in it. From everything else I am just seeing it as a 2D release. So I guess I won't hold out for a 3D release of it!

Hop was NOT released in 3D. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marsha..._b_842375.html

Quote "This may be the year that a movie NOT being in 3D makes it a novelty. Well, perhaps that's an exaggeration.

Nonetheless, its two-dimensional presentation certainly earns a movie extra points in my book. Which, in the case of Hop, is about the best I can say about it."

IT WAS NOT A 3D RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mods, close this sucker down plllllleaase!

http://www.first4movies.com/reviews/articles/hop

" It's interesting that with majority of family films now coming out in 3D, they decided not to make Hop in 3D. While the film works perfectly well without it, it could have made it slightly more attractive to its target audience."

Well it was advertised as such I can assure you. It may not have happened but it was definitely advertised as being in 2D & 3D as there were ads at the Westfield on their huge screens for it in 3D every 5 seconds 1000 times a day!

I think the confusion may be coming from the fact that some of the articles for it were calling it 3D animated. That's all I could find that referenced 3d but you are right as I can't find anything that says it ever was actually in 3d. I could have sworn it had a 3d trailer and was advertised as such. I remember I didn't go see it cause I was looking at showtimes a few weeks after release and couldn't find any 3d showings. That must be why lol. Kinda disappointed cause I was looking forward to this thinking it would have a 3d blu ray release. Oh and I definitely remember seeing this on the 3d release calendar on here so obviously the person who put it up was just as confused as the rest of us.

Yes, it was a 3d release. I saw it with my son. Some very cool scenes in 3D. I won't buy the 2d version as I am waiting for the 3D Blu Ray to come out if it hasn't already.

Yeah I could have sworn I saw ads on television about a 3D release... It's been so long though.

Interview with director Tim Hill:

Quote:
At the film’s press day, director Tim Hill (Alvin and the Chipmunks) talked about the challenges of combining animation with live-action, what made Russell Brand and James Marsden his perfect leading men, and the reasons for not having done the film in 3D.

...

Were there any discussions about doing this in 3D?

HILL: When you look at the movie, I’m not sure what 3D would bring to it. It’s not an action movie. There are very few sets. You could make a case for maybe getting a little more out of the Easter Island factory in 3D. But, in general, the question I kept asking was, “Why? What makes a film better by making it in 3D?” It’s probably past the point where you can just use 3D as a marketing tool. If you say, “It’s in 3D!,” everyone goes, “So what? We’ve seen it.”

The motivation to do it really wasn’t there, for both the content of the film and the style of shooting we were using, which was situational. It didn’t really lend itself to the visual part of 3D that makes 3D really exciting. You plan for it and you use the space differently. This is more of an intimate comedy. It’s almost a buddy comedy. You wouldn’t shoot that in 3D.
