Should be an easy fix swapping an A-Board out and hopefully will fix your issue.

Seriously, if it all works out I lucked out big time. Kind of turned a crap situation into a good one. Almost there. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.

Its a simple fix. Some repair contractors for Panny will come to your house and do it. The total fix takes about half an hour to complete (i.e disassemble the tv, replace the board, ect.)

Good to know. They have the set at the repair place so in my case they will just install the new board at the repair place and then I will need to get it. I hope this board replacement fixes the floating black (I think i have it right thsi time) problem as well. That would be a nice added bonus.

Ok so the end to this saga is that Panasonic will cover $225 of my $374.63 bill. Leaving me having to $149.63 to get my set back. I guess all things considered it could be much worse. This damn thing had better be fixed after this or I'm going postal. Just kidding but I really hope this is the solution to my problem. So let's see a check for $899.99 minus $149.63 is $750. 36. So I guess regardless of the car crap I am still technically $750.36 ahead. Not bad.

I hope panny will fix your issue but the tv is working normally and there is no known fix for the Fluctuating Black levels that I've seen so far. It will get a new A-board with the same programing. That's how I understand it, so I'm surprised it's in the shop. The fix is to get a 2011 set. Not trying to be a dick. Then you get into a possibility of FBr. My 50ST30 that is a June build came new with the fix installed, lucky on that. Anyway, hopefully I am wrong and it fixes your tv Let us know how it goes when you get it back.

For all following my saga. I just got my set back. Repair guy swore up and down that it was working great after the A board replacement. Guess what? It still has the same problem it had and I had to pay $125 out of pocket to get back a screwy set. I'm done with this repair process. I'm just gonna use the set the way it is and if it gets worse I'll buy a new TV somewhere down the line. From my understanding of the problem a new panel may fix it but that is yet again another crap shoot. Not the greatest ending to the story. Oh well.

I have discovered a very strange phenomenon. When I turn the Blur Reduction feature on the red pixels dissapear completely (I have tested this extensively and come to this conclusion). A review I read on CNET claimed that with the feature on the sets registered full 1080 lines of resolution but with it off they registered somewhere between 700 - 800 lines of resolution, so they suggested to put the feature on. It does create a slight "soap opera" effect but not as bad as some of the LED/LCD's I see. Now if the problem doesn't actually get any worse and I can live with that setting on I may be in good shape. It sucks I have to compromise like that but under the circumstances what the hell. Initially I remember noticing the red pixels when the set first came on right after I bought it. However they would then dissapear. About a year down the line I noticed a recognizable drop in picture brightness. Nothing frightening but just a general aging of the set. It was at this point that the red pixel problem became more noticable. Now I have had an A board replaced and still have this pixel issue. However I am thinking it won't get worse and just stay the same for a quite a while. So let's just see if I can get used to this new setting that eliminates the problem. I can definitely say that the new board has greatly reduced the brightness fluctuation, it's almost non-existent now. Oh well I'll wait and see what happens.

I've had a Panasonic Plasma for a little over 2 years now and no problem yet.
Well, image-retention, but nothing very noticeable when it's wiped out.

Can't wait for OLED to become a standard... or LED-projectors becoming affordable...
Cause Plasma... although it can be beautiful, it kind of seems/feels primitive, almost as much as HDDs in the computer-world ARE primitive.

I know the blacks are amazing and the image looks great. But only for like 1 year and then the set goes to crap. That could be an exageration but I can't waste money on a potential sure thing anymore.

I am glad to hear that you are done with Plasma it has always been a joke. When HDTV first came out there was no LCD Tv's Just plasma and projection TV's. Projection TV by far were superior at the time. They didn't have issuies with screen burn. Screen side effect, Screen door effect etc. All the crap that comes with plasma. But they were super thin and people fell in love with that fact that for the first time ever a TV could be hung up on the wall unlike projection TV's which weigh 100 pounds they were hideous looking. Don't get me wrong Plasma has fixed some of the cons that it had back than. But it's still crap and has more cons that DLP and LCD. Plasma will always be a garbage. I recommened you get a DLP or LCD. You get the same TV that I have online for just little over 2,000 dollors brand new. And won't have to worry about any promblems at all. The only that goes bad on DLP is the bulp. But they last for years and are cheap to replace so if anything they are a pro and not a con

It only has some issues, it's not useless and it actually works very well and it gives you a beautiful image.

Also, how the heck can you compare it to DLP?... DLP is for projectors isn't it?
