101 is usually the last one to leave the building or that's the impression I have from buying Disney movies over different formats. That's why i don't have it, by the time it's coming out I'm looking over to the next format. Maybe this format I'll finally get it. Third time the charm? (I saw it in widescreen in theaters around the time I was into Laserdiscs so it wasn't so pressing)

Yes, but there were rumors of it being stripped from the diamond edition line and it was rumored for a release this year.

Keyword is "rumor". Until we get confirmation it is all just speculation, we had all heard Aladdin was possibly coming out this year. However, now get official notice for 2013, it is best not to get ones hopes up.

They usually put out one of their biggest titles for the Fall release.

Snow White
Beauty and the Beast
The Lion King
Cinderella

I think The Little Mermaid is a bigger draw than Peter Pan, and with the 3D release announced for theatres in 2013, I think there will be a similar release strategy to The Lion King this year.

Having said that, I did hear a rumour that they've cut the Diamond Editions back down to 10, and also that Pinocchio is out, so if Aladdin is back in...

Snow White
Beauty and the Beast
Bambi
The Lion King
Lady and the Tramp
Cinderella
Aladdin
The Little Mermaid
The Jungle Book
Sleeping Beauty

Makes 10.

It also means that all 6 of the 'classic' Disney Princesses are in the Diamond Editions, and it wouldn't surprise me that they'd want to do that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Peter Pan is out.

other countries have confirmation that 101 Dalmatians is getting released this Summer/Fall as a Special Edition. that's not a rumor

and Aladdin was dropped from the Diamond line when it was announced, due to poor sales in the Platinum era

Very excited for the Aladdin inclusion. I'm actually hoping for a trilogy set similar to The Lion King trilogy release as I would shell out money for Return of Jafar and I've never actually seen the King of Thieves.

Now of all the classic titles I've seen (and I've grown up in an almost religious Disney household), I don't recall Aristocats at all but will be picking that one up even though there's something about the animation that always looked inferior and crude to me.

The double packs:
I'm definitely in the party who thinks TRDU is superior to the original. Goes back to the crudeness of the animation (the 1970s were a pretty shitty time for the animation wing). Pocahontas I can deal with as I didn't hate the sequel that much but I don't see giving it much play time.

I'll save my money on the rest.

TRDU was made in 1990.

I totally agree. The opening titles ob TRDU are awesome with that Bruce Broughton score.
"Someone once told me, that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. And I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, and reminds us to cherish every moment because they'll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived. After all Number One, we're only mortal."-Captain Jean-Luc Picard

I watched the original too long ago to remember and don't think I've ever seen TRDU, but from what I've heard, both seem to be pretty well-received. The original may have some sub-par animation due to the conditions at the studio at the time, but I have heard the film itself is actually pretty good. It probably just gets lost in the shuffle of being released during the dark ages. As for TRDU, it's probably been somewhat forgotten due to being sandwiched between two of WDAS's biggest, most beloved films. Plus, it's a sequel to a dark age film.

Anyway, I'll probably be grabbing all of these releases. And since the Pochahontas double pack convinces me that individual releases for the non-Diamond movies with "cheapquels" are slim, I'll probably grab the FATH double pack through the DMC soon.

Pocahontas is gonna get separate releases as well across different countries. You could import the movie if you don't want to own the sequel.

I want The Rescuers, The Aristocats, and Cinderella. I've never seen Pocahontas and I don't remember what Aladdin was like so I'm not sure about those.

I just thought of another title I've never seen which is surprising considering how serious into Disney we were growing up: I've never seen The Black Cauldron. Hell, I'm pretty sure I've seen Song of the South more than TBC.

And I'm at the point with SOTS that I'd sell my soul to the Devil for Disney to give the rights over to Criterion to do what they can't with that title.

GREAT news!

I'm bummed they won't be putting ALADDIN out for it's 20th anniversary this year, but if a Diamond Collection title means we will be getting a huge bonus-packed release, I'm totally fine with it.

I'm in DAY ONE for Aristocats, Pocahontas 1&2, Rescuers 1&2 (AWESOME double feature, in my opinion), and of course, Cinderella and Aladdin.

I wonder if Aladdin getting the Diamond release means there might be a Lion King type situation with the two (VERY POPULAR) DTV sequels getting bundled in a gift pack, individual releases afterwards, or both? If Disney is spending the money on a standalone release for the only moderately successful Lady and the Tramp 2, they have to be planning something for Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves.....

Some really great news here! Really cannot wait for Aladdin!!! That was the first Disney movie that I saw in theaters (and I was 15!) and I remember having the cassette soundtrack and listening to it over and over. I had the VHS from day one and the DVD from day one and the blu-ray will be mine day one!

Also, excited about The Rescuers and Pocahontas double features. I just hope that there are good bonus features and that the DVD extras for Pocahontas are on the disc and not the "virtual vault" which I am afraid will happen like The Lion King and Fantasia/Fantasia 2000. And, for some reason I have always liked Pocahontas 2 for what it is. It is probably the only DTV Disney movie that I really enjoyed so having it will not be too bad actually. Would prefer to have separate releases but I am fine with these two options.

I was just going to post up here the other day about how good the original Aladdin DVD sounded on my HT. Can't imagine how good it's going to sound with a DTS-MA 7.1 track
