Default Visio to release 21:9 aspect ratio 3D displays in the U.S.

Very interested in the 21:9 aspect ratio of the CinemaWide 3D.
3 sizes planned: 50", 58", & 71".

The first will be the 58" screen @ 120Hz Edge LED lit. Screen measurement: 56.7-inches wide by 29-inches high. This would provide the equivalent width area of my 65" Panasonic VT25 when viewing 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 ratio movies.

Vizio Theater 3D XVT3D580CM

Technical Specs

Per engadget:
Quote:
Vizio tells USA Today to expect this set to launch ahead of March Madness.
Per Google:
Quote:
March Madness begins Tuesday, March*13, 2012, and ends Monday, April*2, 2012.

Yes, bars on the side. If you have the Internet you can use apps on the side.

Not a fan of CinemaScope movies at those display sizes. If you really want to do it right then do CinemaScope with a projector on a CIH setup. Really how much CinemaScope content does on view to need a display specifically designed for it. If you really want to do it right then do it like the theaters do it. Use a projector and an anamorphic lens. Or do it the cheap way, mount the projector farther away and do the zoom trick to fill the CinemaScope screen area when viewing content where it is needed.

CinemaScope TVs are going to be a flop. There's a reason most of the other panel makers have not done this. It's a niche product area.
4k... really? Can't we just be happy with BD for a while.

Definitely a niche product for Cine-files. Wouldn't mind owning one if the price is right and would prefer the 71" width for the bedroom.
Immersive Cinematic Experience in Sizes Up to 71”

If they made a cinemawide to equal the width of my 110" hometheater screen it would have to be 8Ft. = 96" wide.

But doesn't this mean blu-rays will have to be zoomed in as the black bars are also encoded?

Last time I looked, the anamorphic lens option is not for budget conscious ! They are frikking expensive.....am I right ?

You are correct. The video will have to be cropped or stretched somehow to fit the screen.
