Default Deep Discount order problem?

I placed an order with DeepDiscount.com. Many of you probably remember In Time for sale for 6.99. Okay so after shipping the order total came to 7.98. Later I realised that on the product detail page of In Time it said "usually ships in 5-10 days". I checked my order history and the status of my order changed from "Open" to "Backorder". I waited till today and still my status was "backorder". So, I emailed them and asked them to cancel my order. I got a reply from them saying that my order was cancelled as per my request. I just now checked my order history page and the order is still there with status still saying "Backorder". So the question is, has the order been cancelled or not?

BTW, the item is back in stock now. It's funny cause the item came back in stock right after I asked for my order to be cancelled.

I ordered this too, but haven't received a shipping notice yet. I don't pay much attention to their online order status. I've got orders from them that were fulfilled over a year ago, still showing as open. You can always call to verify that the cancellation went through. Though, I don't quite get why you wanted to cancel, unless you found an even better price.

In fact, that's the only surprising thing: that they actually canceled the order so easily. DD is THE worst when it comes to canceling orders. They've told me they couldn't cancel orders before that weren't even due out for 2 months. That they canceled yours so easily makes me think that either it was some new automated program they recently installed, which may or may not be reliable, or this was a price mistake that they don't want, or plan to honor anyway, which they're also bad about.

But DD is equally notorious for taking forever to ship backordered items - 3-4 weeks, minimum. Which "ships in 5-10 days" always equates to being backordered. It never actually does ship in 5-10 days in my experience anyway. In fact I'd say with this company there's at least a 40% chance it won't ship at all. I've had them take 3 months before and then cancel the order on the basis of no stock, even though their site showed they had it back in stock. I argued with them and they just lied to me, trying to tell me it was a different edition, at a higher price, when it wasn't. I'm currently still waiting on this and an even older order for Blade.

I'm sorry, but why do people even still deal with them at all? They have an awful track record, and the "new owners" are no better.

I read this on another website, and it explains that some of DD's problems, actually have nothing to do with them, at all:

I live in the same area code as DD (approx 24 miles away from their warehouse) and it's taken me 30 days to get a single DVD delivered. I believe it's a problem with the main post office they use-the hub post office where stuff from suburbs around here ends up before it goes out to the appropriate post office for delivery. Packages don't go direct from one post office to another according to newspaper reports. The mail service in the Chicago area was the worst in the country for quite a while. The Postmaster General had to visit Chicago area post offices due to the many complaints sent to our elected representatives in D.C. Postmaster basically called the employees lazy (performing their jobs"with no sense of urgency" was his p.c. way of putting it) and they've improved some but not all that much (5 days for a letter to be delivered within my town is still not uncommon). DD would mail things in a timely fashion but I usually wouldn't get it for it three weeks. Another thing I've noticed is large packages (boxed sets, multiple single DVDs) would arrive much faster than single/small packages. My guess is they move the bulky stuff out (I imagine it would build up pretty quickly) and the small stuff sits until they get around to it. Twice DD sent replacements after 15 days and the original order showed up a few days after I received the second order. I'm pretty confident the problem is with the post office here. I've seen posts here and elsewhere from people who live nearby complaining about long delivery times. With tracking numbers I've tracked some packages and watched them bounce from one post office to another and back again before being delivered. I should add that I rarely have a problem with stuff shipped from NY, NJ, CA, Europe, etc.
If you're reading this, you can read.

I agree. They screwed me over way too many times. I don't care what kind of deals they have. I'm done with them.

Their online order status almost never works, so you can disregard what it says. There have been reports of orders supposedly being canceled by customer service, only to ship later. It's a crapshoot.

It's only a good deal if you actually get something for your time/efforts, to say nothing of your money. People don't always get their stuff from DD.

ummm, oooooooook, you do realize that 99% of the time people get EXACTLY what they ordered. that old snafu where things didn't go out was about 2 years ago. Time to move on. i've ordered over 200 items from them over the years. only one order ever didn't go out.

Do they actually ship you items from the IL location? I used to order from them quite frequently in the past, and they did ship from the IL warehouse. Within the past few years, the few orders I do place with them, usually get sent from CA - which also takes forever to make it here to Chicago. While the postal service around here is pretty horrible, they also don't seem to ship things out very quickly either...

Seriously, what the fagg is going on AGAIN with deepdiscount?! I made an order to be shipped to Europe during their semi-annual (which they funnily enough call bi-annual) 25% off sale. The order went through on June 26. I checked my order status and it's now suddenly just CANCELLED. And they didn't even send any cancellation e-mail explaining anything. And they faggin charged my card in June without faggin reimbursing me what they STOLE FROM MY HARD EARNED MONEY. Faggin idiots. I'm faggin going for a faggin chargeback with those faggin a**holes.

Last time I make any order with those total nitwits.

I was able to score the Star Wars set when they had it for a low price. But normally I do avoid them like the plague.
There simply is no other place on the internet. Blu-ray.com

DD is the worst about canceling orders!

I had a problem with an "in stock" item that was backordered. Since I didn't want to wait 2-3 weeks for delivery, I decided to cancel.

If you cancel an order you will get an email letting you know it was canceled, but that means absolutely nothing as they will ship your item anyway.

They say you can send it back for a full refund, but why go through the hassle?
