I would never hide something. I don't buy MY MOVIES to please others, I buy them because I like them, I don't care about their opinions

My avatar will Wait Until Dark for a Roman Holiday since this world as War & Peace and it would be fun to actually have Breakfast At Tiffany's with My Fair Lady http://letterboxd.com/pat_mtl/ |

This is an interesting twist on the 'guilty pleasures' topic.
It's one thing to acknowlege that some of your favorite films miiiiiiight not be of the absolute highest caliber. For me it would be cheesy faves like Above the Law or just plain bad ones like The Ninth Gate. But to go that extra step and actually hide them from people? No, I wouldn't go that far with anything. Besides, my friends all know I'm an idiot anyway. Looking through my BDs isn't going to tell them anything new. edit: wait, I take some of that back...I did just pick up Dirty Dancing at a Blockbuster closeout and while I won't exactly hide it I don't think I'll be going out of my way to tell anybody either...

Heh, there are entire multi-billion dollar industries devoted to giving people stuff they're embarassed about.

I like what I like...no need to hide anything from anyone...Is it my collection? Yes...but that also doesn't mean every movie I buy is just for me. I buy movies of all genres for different audiences. Some love stories I have never seen but seem interesting. Even if I may not like it as much after I watch it, I'm sure someone(mom, gf, etc) will and that makes it worth it. Having something for everyone. Don't get me wrong, majority of my movies I do like and have seen them already before I buy. At the end of the day, its my preference and not anyone else.
I hope nobody on here hides some of their movies on here lol.... |

I used to be that way about playing pokemon. Now I just don't care.
I don't care for 3D at all. I am just fine with 2D blu-ray movies and my 2D 32" HDTV.
If you live in America, please buy American whenever possible to support our economy! |

Agreed with most of the sentiment here. I'd have no problem explaining to a random person perusing my shelves that Showgirls is actually quite good. Thinking the other person's opinion is just wrong and having confidence in what you know you enjoy is the way forward..
That said, I don't get very many people I don't know coming round looking at my shelves... |

I call bullshit. All three Twilight movies are in "my" collection at home. Meaning, my wife bought them and put them on the shelf with my movies. I don't go round telling people that i've got them and i don't include them in my collection on this site. But i do "own" them. Same with some of the Disney and kids movies i have. Some i like ok, but others will probably get sold or given away to people who have kids at some point, or maybe i'll just save them for my grandkids.
I'm secure in my insecurity at least. |
