I'll concede with some of your points, but at one point, this was the biggest, most-successful, commercial motion picture of all time. With a movie like this, we'd be getting something a bit more extravagant, don't ya think? The documentary that never got see a light of day wasn't included due James Cameron himself and I'm sorry but 63 minutes is not enough to cover a film like Titanic, IMHO. I feel the same way about Scream franchise released on Blu Ray that was missing a lot from the respective 2000 DVD box set. I don't consider myself ungrateful but wonder if these studios ever really put out all their worth into these releases.

This is one of the few movies that I totally love a very, very, very in-depth analysis that go into every detail from the conception of the film to its reception, backlash, and worldwide release again and the 100 anniversary of the sinking of ship. But then again, that's obsessive fan in me.

And obviously no offense to you or anyone, it's just something I constantly see time and again... it's really no wonder if studios don't listen to forum members, because many of them are really never happy. No matter what studios do to try and appease fans, they can never do enough... so why should they try anymore?

I agree that a longer in-depth doc could be included, provided Cameron had time to participate. It all depends on whether or not it's cost-effective. Will they still sell tons of copies without the added expense of making a brand new doc? Or spending more money licensing an older one? Yep. And since some people will complain and moan even if they did that, over something else, I can totally see studios just not caring anymore.

But the film is the deal breaker for me, not the extras. I hardly ever watch them, and if I do, it's usually once. But the film I'll watch time and again.

I'm amazed some of you are happy with anything, ever. I guess it's too much to think people would be grateful with what they do have, not what they don't.

There are many reasons why certain extras change from release to release (licensing, disc space, new extras are made, etc), but rarely are extras ever the same. I can pretty much assure you, it's not just to spite you for no reason whatsoever.
I'm happy the movie has arrived. I'm grateful we are getting the extra's, but...why not go all out, this is bluray, the best format currently out. The material is already on DVD, why not port it over? Why not make a solo documentary with this footage as a separate DVD/Bluray for purchase? IMHO, the "Collectors edition should" have all the bonus material", which would make it even more enticing to grab for collectors.
We have Titanic coming Bluray, and so happy.......Just pointing out the faults. The missing extra's hopefully help people understand whats "not" on this release. I have my thoughts and opinions, but by no means, am I ungrateful......my apologies it it came off that way.

Personally, I wanted the BD release of Titanic to be in Black & White...needless to say I was very distraught, and will be boycotting this release until a B&W version is made available.

As a big fan of extra content, I would love to have every single extra ported from media to media...but, long ago, I gave up trying to be a completist!

There could be licensing issues for starters, as Retalbo mentioned...and that's just the tip of the iceberg!

Well, to be fair, you're not really missing out on the fourth disc. Only a few parodies, and a making of documentary of about half an hour that aired when the movie was in theaters.

And about complaining about bonus features not being there, I think here it's warranted. On the DVD there were all sorts of bonus features you associate with a Special Edition, but the one thing that wasn't there was an in-depth documentary about the making of the movie. When there are rumors that it was finished, and Cameron didn't want it on there, it's even worse.
Blu-ray releases should be perfect representations of their cinema counterparts.

I believe it appeared as an extra on the BetaMax. Unfortunately it wasn't ported over to the blu-ray!

I agree. Regardless of the extras, I've been anticipating this release for a long, long, long time. Titanic in hi-defention/Blu Ray format has been fantasy since I first go my first Blu Ray DVD player and flat screen TV. Now it has come true. I love the movie death and won't let minor nit picks some from enjoying this release. For the sake of Titanic, Jack and Rose, and even James Cameron, I'll let it go.

As noted earlier in the thread, it appears some DVD extras did not make the voyage to BD.

And this is the reason why I hate behind the scenes stuff on movies. Repeated viewings suck when you know how it was made etc...this is why I like my movie only Titanic laserdisc.

You do need a 2D-capable TV to play those 2D discs though
