I think the extras are DVD's so they're identical. They may even be the exact same discs for the DVD, HDDVD and BD releases. I think the only thing different with the briefcases is the label on the front and back (showing what's inside) of the BD and HDDVD version and the case inside (I think it's an Amaray for the HD versions and a Digipak for the DVD).

I own the briefcase and I got rid of the plastic sleeve. It was flimsy, did not stay on, and scratched very easy. The briefcase is rather scratch resistant so it works.

I think it's just a sleeve, but HD Goofnut can confirm. The picture below is from an Amazon review.

It is just a thin plastic sleeve. the shrinkwrap is around the sleeve and briefcase.

So get rid of the sleeve, put the blu-rays in and would it look the same at that point?

Yeah, the sleeve is just what's in the box.

What do you think I did? I received the HD DVD briefcase as a gift at Christmas of 2007. After I switched to BD in 2008 I simply sold the 5 Disc HD DVD case and bought the 5 Disc BD case to replace the space in the briefcase. That's the only difference in the two cases anyway.
