It's a big pet peeeve of mine when studios do this. Logos should be preserved along with the films themselves. Nothing is more distracting than seeing a movie from the sixties or seventies with the studio's current, slick, CGI version of the logo placed at the beginning. Just do the current logo first, then segue into the period logo that was attached to the original version of the film, dammit.

Exactly Universal does it right! They use that new logo first and what ever logo preceded the film that is how the film should start. WB's as much as they are into film preservation they tend to want to destroy their own companies film history
Stop the Replacing of original Studio Opening / Closing logos! These are becoming endangered and should be kept intact. They are part of film history.

Funny as I typed it all I could think of was that is the only thing they usually do right. All else is a gamble.

I just checked my Carlotta disc and there is no WB logo whatsoever. It goes straight to the black screen with the voice over.

Cool thanks for that update... I was curious if that logo was omitted for the foreign release or not esp since it was distributed by another company.

Still the screen should be black during the voiceover... not a brand new CGI logo as the voiceover is being heard. ruins the effect. In fact it goes against the editing of how the film was intended to begin. if they could have held the logo in silence then the black background it wouldn't seem as intrusive.. but still I would be 100% against it.

I may still import the French release since since I would rather it open in total darkness than the the new logo that clashes with how the film should begin.

I agree it's a nice treat when they preserve the original intros. Especially on really early Universal or RKO pictures, I love seeing their original intros as part of the presentation.

I wouldn't say it's a pet peeve of mine though, more like a strong preference. Actually on a film from the 70's or 80's I probably wouldn't care much at all, my preference applies more to the earlier eras. Still they should just be uniform about it and always keep the original intro.

Mean Streets was originally recorded in mono, so don't expect too much from the audio.

If you own the Carlotta France edition which WB logo opens the film?

This is how the film should open Logo in silence and then the voice over with black background. The new US BLU has it open with the new logo and narration over the logo's movement.

No way Scorsese would approve this change, then again we still have Goodfellas on a 25 GB disc with compressed audio.

I'm bummed the US release didn't include Italianamerican like the French(?) one did. Does anyone know if that feature was HD or SD? Still excited to own this on Blu and with a Scorsese commentary!

Mono DTS-HD does this sound any good? Only mono track movie I have seen besides this on DVD was Kurosawa 7 Samurai

Just watched it. I hate the new logo at the beginning. Still a great film.

Anyone ever notice that Charlie has a copy of Mario Puzo's The Godfather on his nightstand? I thought it was a great touch considering Scorsese partially conceived of Mean Streets as a kind of realistic alternative to The Godfather's romantic depiction of the mafia.

None of the Future Shops, HMVs, Best Buys or Wal-Marts in my city (~1m population) got this in yet. I ordered it from HMV to make sure I get a copy.

Pretty weak that it just didn't show up, I was pretty pumped up for it on Tuesday.

Italianamerican is in HD but at 1080i50 as are all the bonus features of this edition except "Home Movies" which is 1080p24. And no english subtitles (which is too bad).

I have the French edition, so which one is the best in terms of picture/color, Us or French? Cause I'm not sure about dvd beaver. The Carlotta blu-ray has the same color timing of the Warner us dvd.
