wow. impressive.
I have heard that Sparrows is a very good film. don't know much about MP. still great to see more silent films coming to bd. I wish Milestone would release The Trial on blu-ray. I have the OOP dvd, and that is one cool film. edit: looks like Milestone has a ton of MP films on dvd. seems like this set should have been labelled Vol.1 Last edited by Arkadin; 04-02-2012 at 06:35 PM. |

This is available for preorder on Milestone's site & amazon. Ordering directly through Milestone would probably be preferable to cut out the middle man for this fantastic mom & pop business. Price isn't bad at all!

According to the e-mail newsletter Milestone sent out, they're also shipping copies now... four months earlier than the release date.
"I have no religion. I don't belong to any faith. I don't need a god, salvation or eternal life. I'm my own god, I supply my own angels and demons." - Riten
"In truth, I am but a poor jester in this farce of dark shadows." - Gycklarnas afton "Life is merely a cruel and sensual arc from cradle to grave." - Fängelse |

I know very little about her (expect the fact she was Canadian). In general for silent movies I always buy Chaplin and Keaton or the well known classis like Sunrise or Wings.
I think I will go and buy this once it's release

I ordered it from Milestone on Friday and got a shipping notice later the same afternoon!
It's available to Milestone customers on their own website at http://milestonefilms.com/products/r...ord-collection (currently for 20% off the suggested list price), but if you order directly from them that makes you a Milestone customer (and you can sign up for their newsletter when you order). I gather the disc just won't be officially in stores or through Amazon or other dealers until November, to tie in with a new book about Mary Pickford being published at that time. Even the list price is a good deal, considering there are three complete features on three Blu-ray discs, as well as a short, and the sale price is a great bargain. (Those so inclined can also buy it with public performance rights at considerably higher cost.) SPARROWS is one of the best Pickford titles for those who have never before seen one of her films. It goes over well with general audiences of classic film fans, not just Pickford fans or silent movie fans (especially seen on a big screen in a crowded theatre with a live pipe organ accompaniment). My favorite is POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL, however, and THE HOODLUM is also very good. Last edited by Blu-Velvet; 07-08-2012 at 06:45 PM. |

The email I got from Milestone also says this set is "designed to introduce younger viewers to the pleasures of silent films. Each film includes an optional short intro featuring a group of kids who discover a treasure trove of old films in an attic and learn a lot about film history in the process. Each silent feature also has an optional audio track with spoken intertitles and explanations to help them enjoy the experience even more!"
Hope this doesn't get too cringe-worthy. Wonder why they do this. I would imagine Disney would do it if they ever released silents. But what kids would ever hear of Milestone anyway? |

Haven't watched it yet, but I love silents.
"If we're about to die anyways, I'd rather die fighting! Come for me Gmork, I am Atreyu!"
"And use some of that cologne Gertrude got you for Christmas." "Oh do I have to Mother, it smells like ether?" " I told you 158 times I hate little notes on my pillow. 'We are all out of Corn Flakes F.U.' it took me three hours to realize that F.U. stood for Felix Ungar." |

For those interested in this set but put off by the relatively high price tag at Amazon, I just noticed that it's only $21.38 plus shipping (46% off) from Import CDs.
