Chinese Democracy was half brilliant and half filler, but that goes along with the Illusion albums as well.
Slash and Axl are both first class JERKS. I don't see why so many people take sides. They're both very talented writers but they couldn't be any more different. Axl wanted to write punk rock songs and also songs like Estranged and Coma. Those 9 minute tunes. Slash wanted straight ahead rock/metal. I would've been happy with either direction but they couldn't compromise anymore. Axl's ego is out of control but Slash isn't innocent. Dude ingested more heroin than all of Seattle combined. I can't blame Axl for rejecting the stuff that Slash brought to the table in '94. Those songs became "Slash's Snakepit" which truly sucked. All in all we shouldn't expect two guys who have sued eachother nonstop to go to any kind of dinner together. They both seem happier today. Slash has his projects, and Axl is still selling out places. Both still sound great tho. Last edited by West E; 04-13-2012 at 03:24 AM. |

I'm not sure why the media is full of "GNR Reunite" articles.
Wasn't that just Velvet Revolver with a couple of guests? LOL |

Slash and Axl are both jerks. Slash just plays the "nice guy" role better. He's just as bad.

Nope. Guns N'Roses bare minimum has to be Axl and Slash. That's the absolutely minimum for me to accept it as GNR. Really, for me to be satisfied, it would have to be Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff and either Matt Sorum or Steven Adler. I am flexible on the drummer. What is touring now is just Axl solo plus some studio musicians.

If you asked me to rate the solo material that has been put out by each of these guys, it would be Izzy in a landslide. He has put out a ton of great material over the last 20 years. As Duff has said, Izzy is one of the only guys still doing honest, kickass American hard rock. Axl would come in second for solo material. Despite the $15m pricetag and ridiculously overproduced sound, Chinese Democracy was still a more interesting album than the stuff Slash and Duff have come up with. |
