Of the movies I've seen from him, I liked Pyscho and The Birds, greatly liked Strangers on a Train and To Catch a Thief, but absolutely loved North by Northwest. I've only seen parts of Dial M for Murder and I thought it was boring, but I have to really watch the whole thing. I'll have to watch these other movies in the set to see what I like from him and don't like. For me, the box set is just too risky when it comes to Hitchcock. |

Agreed on all of the above. I have started Rear Window, and it's off to a slow start, too. I love Jimmy Stewart so hopefully it'll pick up. I love the box set but I need to investigate more of Hitchcock before I pull the trigger on something like this. I'll eventually give Vertigo another watch. |

IMO, Vertigo is Hitchcock's best film. It's also his most personal. (the film deals with his fascination with Grace Kelly, the unrealistic standard of beauty created by cinema, and the Myth of Pygmalion)

This is probably a stupid question, but I'm still learning the basics of importing. If I order it from Amazon.de, will everything still be in English? I'm looking at this:

While I must admit that Citizen Kane is still my favorite, Vertigo has always been my favorite Hitchcock film. So, if Sight and Sound considers this the greatest film of all time, I am fine with that.
While I do not think Vertigo has been as influential or instructive as Kane over the years, this one Hitchcock film goes beyond what many directors feel comfortable with. Not wanting to rank the Hitch films, as others have done, let me give a shout out to Psycho for using his low-budget television production crew. I like Rear Window and North By Northwest. But besides Vertigo, Rope, and The 39 Steps, the only other Hitchcock film for me is Notorious. (By the way, I own a bunch of his film DVD compilations) Last edited by jacksonwalker; 08-24-2012 at 02:19 AM. |

Warning, if you haven't seen Rear Window, this post may contain spoilers.
First time I saw Rear Window, I was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's a great film, but I was expecting a Hitchcockian twist, and it was pretty much straight forward; I was used to Hitchcock's method of subverting your expectations. I guess in this case, he subverted my expectations by not subverting my expectations, lol! Still, it's a great film and I can't wait to own it. |

I thought THE BIRDS was getting a separate release. I'm not a Hitchcock diehard so I won't be picking up a new box set. I have the old velvet DVD set which I grabbed at a heavy discount - still haven't watched the majority of the films.

Well, 5 weeks for me too. The site I ordered from usually takes a week to deliver. If I'm lucky, I'll get it by the Saturday after release date. But I got a good deal.

Man, I'm pretty torn as of right now. There are a few titles in this set that I'd absolutely LOVE to finally own on BD, but at the same time, there are just as many that I don't want. And in the middle are the ones I'm indifferent towards or already own, which combined with the ones I don't want make this set not worth it for me. I hope The Birds, Vertigo, Rear Window, Rope, and even Shadow of a Doubt (albeit to a lesser degree) get individual releases. I already own North By Northwest.
Top 10 Favorite Films: 1. The Dark Knight 2. The Departed 3. Pulp Fiction 4. The Empire Strikes Back 5. District 9 6. Casino Royale 7. The Shawshank Redemption 8. No Country For Old Men 9. The Lion King 10. The Lord of the Rings

Consider Amazon.co.uk instead if you want it in English. THey have two version, one looks similar to the US version and one is uniquely packaged. If you don't already have it you will need to consider ordering North by Northwest seperately from Amazon.com (or elsewhere).
