I also believe there will be other Monroe movies coming to BD and who knows if they put out another box set or if they even put out another one that combines some of the new ones with some of the old ones.

So much uncertainty means individual titles for me. From Fox Connect with the 10% coupon its a hair under $70 shipped for 5 of them, Ill get Seven Year Itch from Walmart for the $8.86 price, and I already have Some Like It Hot. So Under $80 for 6 more Marilyn movies is ok in my book.
The individual covers are almost drool worthy but I can showcase the classier design of the boxed set
2012 favs: Prometheus, Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures, Universal Classic Monsters, The Terminator (UK), E.T. (digibook), JAWS (digibook), Walking Dead Season 2 w/ Zombie Head, Full Metal Jacket (digibook), Star Trek TNG Season 1, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Casablanca, Game of Thrones Season 1, Cleopatra (UK)

Some of them are OK - I like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes & How to Marry a Millionaire, but I downright hate River of No Return. I agree the boxset is very classy, I've been saving a top spot on a shelf for a great UCE or boxed set, and Forever Marilyn gets it.

I agree. A lot of nice things to display coming up... Marilyn, Hitchcock, Universal Monsters...

Thanks for the alert.

I'm on the fence on whether to get the box set or not, but one that I definitely want is "Seven Year Itch". I'd be kicking myself if I decided against the box set and let this one pass by at such a great price, so I pulled the trigger. Even if I do get the box set somewhere down the road, I'm sure I can find somebody who would love to take the single release off of my hands.

I'd be willing to bet that's a pricing error, Walmart.com's price for all the other individual BD releases is $18.86, their price for the DVD re-release is $8.86. But it has been up for a while, they'll probably honor it.

It does seem a little odd. I guess we'll know soon enough if it's an error or not (... the release date is July 31).

Just a heads up. Best Buy should have all of the individual ones on release date. They have the Upgrade and Save Program going on through the 11th of next month. Which gives you a week to trade in 7 DVDs and get $5 off all 7 of the blurays. So $35 off total.

Not sure if thats much better than foxconnect after shipping etc and having to wait for them but its another option.

I just checked the individual titles on Best Buy's website and it shows "store pickup unavailable". Hopefully, in a week this will change, although I'm not holding out hope, because whenever I see that response from BB, it has been 100% true. They don't carry it. It's happening so much of the time on catalog releases that Amazon is getting a ton of my business now-a-days.

It always shows "store pickup unavailable" on pre-orders, because it's not in stores yet. You need to check it on or after release day.

They used to never do that. When I first got into Blu-ray years ago, Best Buy was on top of everything. You could count on them 100%. They pushed Blu-ray like it was nobodies business. Now, they are completely unreliable and Amazon has become my go to for day one purchases. If by Monday, Tuesday the latest of next week, they don't change to "available for pickup 7/31/12", Amazon gets my money. If they can't guarentee ahead of time, mind you like they used to years ago, that they will have a title(s) available in store, Amazon gets my business.

And I can remember the day when Best Buy was almost always to price leader in store for major new DVD releases on release day, and going there to buy them often. Those days are long gone, and I haven't been inside a BB for almost a year. Yes, they've scaled way back on carrying Blu-ray in store, especially catalog releases. These days they want to sell TVs, cellphones and computers. But I do buy from bestbuy.com regularly and have it shipped free.

But I can also the day when Amazon was the price leader online, but that's becoming less & less the case. Just checking 3 of the individual releases, Amazon's price is $18.99 for How to marry a Millionaire, $19.85 for Gentlemen prefer Blondes, and $22.49 for Seven Year Itch. BestBuy.com seems to have them all at $19.99. Direct from Fox at Foxconnect.com they're only $15.99 each, and if you make a new account with them & give them an email address you get a 10% off coupon. I pre-ordered Forever Marilyn collection from Foxconnext for $58 & change w/coupon and free shipping for orders $49 & higher. Amazon still wants $73.86 for it. I'm most likely going to let my Prime expire in September, I've bought so little from Amazon this year.

No it doesn't. If they are guaranteed to be getting it in, I could pre-order it for in-store pickup before it comes out. Just as an example, I could pre-order the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation right now for in-store pickup and then pick it up on Tuesday. I did the same thing for the first two seasons of The Big Bang Theory last week.

I don't think it looks bad. Just not on the level of some of the very best. Still, in the end, I wouldn't solely base my initial opinion on their screenshots.

Incase anyone is interested, JB HI-FI are having a 20% off sale on their blu-rays today. It ends at 9pm tonight (5.5 hours away) and the Forever Marilyn box set is only $47.98 and the packaging is better than the U.S release, at least as far as keeping discs safe is concerned. No cardboard slots. Just two standard cases in a slipcase. Also includes a collectable booklet. Works out to be only $6.85 AUD per movie

I received my Australian set today and had a quick look at all 7 discs.

As expected, Some Like It Hot and The Misfits are the same as the previous individual releases.

The Seven Year Itch looks very clean and colorful and DVD Beaver's review is spot on! A flat picture, medium grain, but has a slightly "wide" appearance.

River Of No Return to me looked very good. Especially the outdoor shots having nice detail.
The darker night shots are grainy and black levels are so-so.

How To Marry a Millionaire also looked a bit "wide". I looked at several scenes and it would appear that the PQ is inconsistent. The opening shots of NYC look fantastic, but the following shots of Bacall entering the building are not. Certainly no great depth to the picture. Nice colour though.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is super colorful and has quite good resolution and detail. The 3:4 aspect ratio is quite refreshing and I am really looking forward to watching the whole film.

There's No Business Like Show Business looked very good to me. I checked out the beginning of 5 chapters and the PQ is great.

All the above are by no means reviews, just a few notes on what to expect.
The transfers do not look like they are the product of any remastering, just transfers from the best source that could be found.
All films have DTS HD Master Audio 5:1 and the Australian discs are Region Free!
I view on a 110 inch screen. These films would probably all look super on a TV sized display.
